We have exciting opportunities for Trainee LGV C+E Drivers to join us at John Lewis & Partners, ensuring that our high quality products are transported safely from our Distribution centre to Stores.
As a Trainee Driver of an LGV from our fleet, you will be responsible for upholding the reputation that John Lewis & Partners holds for quality and customer service. We'll expect you to go that extra mile in everything you do, be a Partnership brand ambassador through professional and courteous driving skills and excellent behaviours in line with Partnership values and standards. Deliver exemplary customer service to our stores. Be legally compliant under EU Driving and Working Time Directive regulations whilst meeting Health and Safety legislation within your daily tasks.
Hours of work
On joining the scheme you will be paid £10.80 per hour and your working hours will be Monday to Friday 07:00 to 17:30 , 47.5 hours a week
On successfully gaining your LGV licence you will be paid £13.90 per hour, based on 47.5 hours a week.
Upon completion of the course you will be paid £13.90 - £16.68 plus any relevant shift premiums and your working rota will be Wednesday to Sunday. We are a 24 hour operation and start times vary so they could be AM, PM, nights and weekends. A shift pattern will be assigned to you depending on business needs, so flexibility is required with regards to working hours. Currently there are only PM shifts available.
There will be an opportunity to discuss alternative shifts with your manager if they become available in the future.
What will you be doing?
We’ll give you all the training you need to kick-start your driving career so that you can gain the licences you need to do the job and secure a permanent driving role with us at the end of your 13 week program.This will include passing all 4 LGV Modules (both theory and practical) and also passing the John Lewis Risk based Driving Assessment whilst achieving a low score. Once your a fully qualified as an LGV driver, we expect that you will be:
Completing all branch / distribution centre deliveries and supplier collections within given timescales
Completing all the vehicle checks and follow correct defect reporting procedures
Coupling/uncoupling Trailers to DVSA test standard and JL SOP
Completing all of the required documentation accurately
Operating your vehicle in a safe and economical manner with feedback from our telematics systems
Ensuring that your vehicle is maintained in a clean and tidy condition
Effectively communicating any problems and delays to all of the relevant parties
Safely loading and unloading whilst complying with the correct procedures for the given location
Maintaining a full knowledge of the Highway code, WTD, EU Drivers Hours Regulations and Vehicle operation
What is involved during the academy process?
The program is built initially around 13 weeks, in which the C+E test will be completed. Following successful acquisition of your licence, a further period of training will be carried out to gain further experience and knowledge. This will be on the job training with a qualified LGV1 driver. This will include Branch deliveries and collections. Following this there will be an assessment, which subject to completion will then set you up as a LGV1 driver, initially on a Branch restricted list. There will be ongoing assessments to support you throughout your transition to fully qualified LGV1 Driver without restrictions.
The LGV Driver Academy training is fully funded by the Partnership and we will make a significant investment in all those that progress through it. We hope those that join the programme do so because they want to continue their career with the Partnership for the future.
After successfully gaining your C+E Licence and completing the training program, there is an expectation that you will remain with the partnership for a period of at least 2 years. Failure to do so may result in you having to repay all or some of the cost of the training provided.
If within 12 months of completing the programme, a Partner does decide to leave the Partnership, they will be asked to pay for 100% of the cost of the training they have received, 50% of the cost if they leave within 12 - 18 months of completing the programme and 25% of the cost if they leave within 18 - 24 months of completing the programme.
