Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship - Manufacturing, West Midlands


There's no need to choose between education and practical skills – our Advanced Apprenticeship gives you both. You can broaden your mind with brand new concepts at college and put them into action here at Jaguar Land Rover.


One day you'll be learning about the latest technologies in your field and the next you'll be applying your learning in your job.


And while we’re giving you a platform to make a real difference for us and our customers, we’ll also enable you to complete your level 3 apprenticeship and achieve a relevant vocational qualification.


As an Advanced Apprentice (Level 3) on this programme you could be based in our Stampings group, Manufacturing Vehicle Operations (MVO) or Manufacturing Programme Management (MPM). You will be asked to indicate your preference during the application process. Please note that the location of your education provider will depend on the area of the business in which you work.


Solihull plant

  • Location: Solihull

Our Manufacturing Maintenance teams at Solihull is responsible for the ongoing monitoring, maintenance and control of all equipment used in the manufacturing process, as well as driving process and facility improvements. Apprentices will support preventative or reactive maintenance across our technology areas: Trim and Final, Paint and Body, focusing on robotics, mechanical pumps and motors, and water test facilities.

Stamping Group

  • Location: Castle Bromwich or Solihull

At the heart of the Press Shop, you’ll become a Mechatronics Maintenance Technician working on a range of facilities including state-of-the-art press lines and a high level of automation and robotics. You’ll be responsible for maintaining all press facilities, including servo presses, hydraulic presses and cranes and conveyor systems to ensure our manufacturing operation runs smoothly.


To support our in-house machine wellness strategy, you will be involved in undertaking major strip-down, refurbishment and repair activities to improve equipment availability and performance. In addition, you’ll use your problem-solving skills to carry out proactive preventative and predictive maintenance whilst diagnosing and fixing faults on complex machinery and equipment. Along the way, you will gain valuable skills in robotic, PLC, electrical and mechanical systems, giving you a great foundation for career development within Jaguar Land Rover.


Manufacturing Vehicle Operations (MVO)

  • Education provider: Warwick Trident College


Manufacturing Vehicle Operations consolidates multiple vehicle servicing operations across Jaguar Land Rover via the West Midlands Rapid Recovery Centre (RSA) and Internal Service Centre (ISC) at the Castle Bromwich plant, which features a 13-bay workshop facility plus customer waiting and office areas. The workshop throughput capability is 90 vehicles per week, with the capability to process all current vehicles, spanning internal combustion engine (ICE), plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) and battery electric vehicle (BEV) variants.


Manufacturing Programme Management (MPM)

  • Location: Castle Bromwich, Gaydon, Ryton and Fen End

  • Education provider: Warwick Trident College


MPM drives the business by uniting cross-functional teams throughout the end-to-end process to ensure the most sustainable manufacturing solution for all vehicle and unit programmes. At every stage, we satisfy our customers by delivering products that are ready to meet cost, quality and time targets.


Some of our Advanced Apprentices in MPM will be based in Pilot Operations in Castle Bromwich or Ryton. Working in either our Trim & Final or Body in White (BIW) Pilot Operations facilities, you will operate alongside a highly skilled and motivated team. In our Trim & Final facility, you will learn all aspects of Jaguar Land Rover products, spanning BIW, Trim, Chassis, Powertrain and electrical. In our BIW facility you will either specialise in sheet metal works or learn all aspects of the vehicle body construction process and the equipment we use to put everything together.


Alternatively, you could be based in our Field Evaluation Unit (FEU) or International Upgrade (IU) teams at Gaydon and Fen End. Both teams support the end-to-end vehicle launch lifecycle from early prototype vehicle preparation to updating and preparing the units for external sale post-completion. You could find yourself in anything from pre-delivery inspections to strip-downs and rebuilds for second-hand sale, spanning engine changes, chassis updates, trim changes and full vehicle software downloads as well as vehicle inspections to MOT standard.


The apprenticeship


The Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship – Manufacturing is a four-year programme, delivered to Institute for Apprenticeships & Technical Education (IfATE) standards. This exciting programme will develop your practical skills and cultivate the knowledge you need for your role, including business behaviours such as team working and problem-solving. In particular, you will learn how to work safely and make a technical contribution to the development, quality assurance, manufacture, installation, commissioning, decommissioning, operation or repair and maintenance of our products or equipment.


Your pathway will depend upon the area of the business in which you will be based. You will be asked for your preference on business area ahead of attending an assessment with us.


In your first year, your time will be spent studying at our education provider and working at a Jaguar Land Rover plant alongside members of our skilled teams. In the subsequent years you will be predominantly working in the plant, and you’ll continue your studies leading up to your End Point Assessment (EPA). Throughout your apprenticeship, you will have the constant guidance and support from both the business and the training provider.


If you are based at Solihull Plant in Maintenance or in Stamping Group your education provider will be Make UK, Technology Hub, Nobel Way, Birmingham B6 7EP.


If you are based at Manufacturing Vehicle Operations (MVO) (Castle Bromwich) or Manufacturing Programme Management (MPM) (Castle Bromwich, Gaydon, Ryton and Fen End), your education provider will be Warwick Trident College (part of Warwickshire College Group: WCG); Trident Park, Poseidon Way, Royal Leamington Spa, Warwick CV34 6SW

To be eligible, you will need to meet our academic entry criteria: GCSE Maths and English Language at level 4 (C) or higher plus three further GCSEs at level 4 (C) or higher, including one STEM (science, technology, engineering or maths) subject or an Engineering vocational qualification at level 3 90 credits/540 GLH or higher.

We haven’t yet confirmed our 2023 level 3 advanced apprenticeship salary, but as a guide our current starting salary for level 3 apprentices on this programme is £15,835. We will also pay for your tuition and course fees.
