Job description
Do you have the range of skills to keep our facilities at a high standard?
We’re looking for an adaptable Maintenance Person to carry out a wide variety of jobs, including repairs and renovations. You must have previous experience as a handyman, and knowledge of health safety regulations. A full driving licence and your own transport are also required.
With a good overall knowledge of the hotel and its facilities, you’ll conduct frequent checks and work with other departments to ensure that everything is kept up to our high standards. Tasks might require knowledge of basic joinery, plumbing, electrical, painting and decorating, tiling, grouting and general DIY. You’ll also keep all paths, garden areas and car parks free from rubbish and debris.
Every day will be different, so you’ll need to be well-organised, and able decide which jobs are the most urgent. When engineers or contractors are brought in, you’ll help and accompany them.
You’ll need to be flexible about your working hours, and to work well without supervision. Good communication skills are also important, and you’ll also have to keep records of your work and the costs. So an excellent command of English is important.
This is a customer-facing role: you’ll need to be attentive to guests and their requirements, and demonstrate a service attitude that exceeds expectations.

Do you love your work and always know exactly what your clients need?
Then we want to work with you!
Our team thrive on delighting guests, and that's important because we welcome the return of many loyal Loch Fyne fans every year. Just now there are some big changes happening at the hotel, so we need more hospitality enthusiasts to join us on the next step of our exciting journey.
But we're also after someone who does their homework before telling their mum they're away to move to Inveraray. It's a lifestyle choice, to live in the heart of Argyll, on the west coast of Scotland.
Inveraray is just a wee town on the edge of Loch Fyne, with lots of quaint old white washed buildings. In the summer, tourists pack out the castle and infamous Inveraray Jail. Things get pretty quiet in the winter.
If you love seafood, you'll love the fresh local oysters from Loch Fyne. It's Scotland's longest sea loch - which is gorgeous, but can also feel remote. Inveraray is 90 minutes from Glasgow and you have to make the scenic drive all the way around the top of the loch to get there. The nearest train station is Oban, an hour by car, or buses go to Glasgow every two hours.
Three reasons to choose a career with Crerar Hotels
- Destination locations
Scotland provides a sought-after quality of life, ideal for outdoorsy types. Urbanites may find there are limitations, with reduced public transport, small local shops and occasionally - the ultimate modern hardship - patchy phone signal. But those who take that in their stride find that they discover true peace and quiet, wake up to incredible scenery and have Scotland's natural larder to feast on daily.
- Talent development
We always aim to progress staff internally where possible, which means a number of our team have been with us long-term. They've chosen to make a life in one (or more!) of our locations, building themselves a varied career in the Scottish hospitality industry.
- Shaped by our values
We share the spirit of Scotland through our values. We take pride in providing a truly authentic experience; we're warm in personality, curious to get to know our guests and confident in sharing our knowledge. We take what we do seriously, but our humour means we also see the lighter side. Above all, we're comfortable saying, "we are who we are!"
