The ACE Programme
We are looking for ambitious, curious individuals who are motivated for a career in professional services to join the firm in September 2023, with a view to complete a 2-year apprenticeship in one of our legal and business support areas.
The Apprenticeship Career Excellence programme is a structured scheme, combining paid work experience with a qualification suited to your chosen area, lasting for two years in length.
Throughout the apprenticeship you will have the opportunity to learn business skills, develop your professional network, gain practical experience and work on exciting projects with experienced professionals who are dedicated to your development and progression.
The Personal Injury and Medical Negligence Team
A highly regarded and successful personal injury and medical negligence team, working on behalf of Claimants. The team has gone from strength to strength in recent years, resulting in many multimillion-pound settlements.
Programme Responsibilities
Legal Secretarial Assistants provide junior secretarial, administrative and clerical support to the Partners and Fee Earners in the department by assisting and supporting the senior secretaries with tasks that include, but are not limited to, the below:
- Photocopying, scanning and printing, taking care to check all work before passing over, i.e. are any pages missing, is the document legible, or does it need to be sealed up, etc.
- Supporting the preparation of bulk documentation, files and bundles
- Preparing voluminous and complicated packs of papers for meetings and ensuring that the correct papers go to the correct recipients and that they are carefully checked and presented professionally
- Updating document files and amending indexes.
- Using Outlook to send and monitor calendar appointments electronic and physical paper filing
- Taking responsibility for the files you keep and ensuring that they are always up to date and that documents can be retrieved easily
- Producing electronic bundles
- Sending invoices and expenses to Belfast for payment
- Profiling documents onto filesite
- Assisting with sending out post from post folders, to include collating enclosures.
- Downloading imaging and medical records – applying "OCR" so they become searchable, to include uploading imaging onto RAW
- Checking discs
- Paginating
- Archiving
A bit about you
- A minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) including English and Maths grades 5 – 9 (A – C)
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Curiosity and flexibility
- Eagerness to learn
- Driven, determined for a career in professional services
- A good understanding of our firm and our values
