We’re looking for an Assistant to work across our Legal and Governance team. The role will offer huge amounts of variety and learning opportunities as you will be supporting several team members with work spanning the different Octopus business units, industries and board types.
In the long term this role offers the ability to develop your skillset and grow as a Legal & Governance professional, gaining first-hand experience alongside any academic qualifications you chose to undertake in your spare time.
The team:
The Legal & Governance Team is a Centre of Expertise that sits within the Octopus Investments division of Octopus and provides corporate compliance, governance and legal services to Octopus group companies and Octopus managed funds. The team look after a variety of companies ranging from listed VCTs, FCA regulated entities, LLPs etc. that invests in renewable energy, fibre networks, healthcare and property and are exposed to a wide range of activities undertaken in these entities.
What will you be doing?
Within this role your work will be split across the Legal and Governance/Company Secreteriat functions, within which you will support multiple team members with administrative and team related tasks.
From a legal perspective your tasks could include; raising purchase orders, paying legal fees, maintaining and creating template documents, maintaining databases and systems, reviewing legal agreements and liaising with various internal and external stakeholders.
The Governance aspects of the role include monitoring emails, escalating queries, managing KYC requests, administrative support for board meetings, statutory compliance and updating Diligent Entities and statutory registers with company changes.
Ideally, you’ll have:
✅ Previous work experience – through working in a Law Firm, handling legal matters in-house in a company, or experience working in a Company Secretarial or Governance Team.
✅ Excellent written & spoken English in order draft documentation and understand basic legal contracts.
✅ Curiosity to be learning, developing and improving.
