The Legal Assistant (Immigration) provides support to the immigration law team. The Legal Assistant is responsible for completing government application forms, preparing legal documents and researching law sources. The Legal Assistant is responsible for coordinating a variety of administrative procedures to ensure a high standard of quality and customer service.
Key Responsibities
- Drafting correspondence and legal documentation including editing and quality assurance
- Coordinate external and internal communication including mail, e-mail, fax and telephone calls
- Coordinate refugee claims with Immigration and Refugee Board and clients
- Address client inquiries and schedule appointments
- Maintain client files and prepare client files for closure and storage
- Daily preparation of time/service dockets
- Preparation of accounts
- Coordinate and organize meetings, conference calls and maintain agenda
- Coordinate travel arrangements
- Manage and administer social media accounts
- Assist with other projects and support other departments as required
Qualifications
- Completed post-Secondary education in Office Administration from a recognized post-secondary institute or suitable combination of education and administrative related experience
- Minimum two years of law office experience or professional administrative experience
- Minimum one year of immigration law experience is preferred
- Strong working knowledge of PC desktop tools such as word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, e-mail
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and professional presentation
- Basic office equipment experience
- Customer relations experience
- Experience preparing and editing correspondence
- Bilingualism (English and French) is preferred
