Lerners is seeking a Legal Assistant to support the Family Law team in the London, Ontario office. The ideal candidate will have over 4 (four) years of experience working in a similar position. The primary duties will be handling and running Family Law files from client intake to trial preparation. This is a Hybrid position and requires a minimum of 2 days in office or as required
Primary Responsibilities
- answering the phone and handling cold calls
- scheduling appointments
- opening and closing files, conducting conflict searches
- organizing retainer and privacy documents
- detailed file organization, paper and electronic filing
- maintaining lawyer’s calendar and an effective BF system
- drafting correspondence to clients and lawyers
- setting up teleconferences, case conferences, and settlement conferences
- issuing Orders
- updating Continuing Records and Motion Records
- managing Court Filings
- preparing for trials
- managing information in DivorceMate
- preparing certificates of Financial Disclosure and preparing Financial Statements
- serving and filing all documents in connection with family court proceedings.
Qualifications
- a minimum of 4 (four) years of experience as a Family Law Legal Assistant or Law Clerk in the London area
- familiarity with the London Family Law rules and practice directions
- the ability to work independently and as a part of a team
- deep knowledge of DivorceMate
- a keen attention to detail and solid organizational skills
- a strong work ethic
- strong communication skills
