An exciting position is available for a Legal Assistant to join our Legal Team Team at Dawsongroup plc Head Office in Milton Keynes.
Dawsongroup, proud recipients of the Queens Award for Enterprise: Innovation 2022, is a privately owned group of companies specialising in commercial asset leasing and financing, operating from offices throughout the world.
Purpose of Job
Providing legal advice to Dawsongroup plc and its subsidiary companies, focussing primarily on debt recovery litigation but also dealing with other legal matters (such as commercial contracts, employment and property) as directed by the Group Legal Manager.
Key Features
As part of a busy and small department, the job holder reports to the Group Legal Manager and has responsibility for the following:
- To check that new cases passed to the Legal Department are transferred as per Group Legal Department procedures
- Identify new cases to the Group Legal Manager on a timely basis
- Debt recovery across all Dawsongroup plc companies. This will include all stages of litigation, such as pre-action correspondence, issuing Court proceedings, preparing witness statements and attending Court as and when directed by the Group Legal Manager
- The drafting and negotiating of commercial contracts with customers and suppliers
- Dealing with employment issues as and when directed by the Group Legal Manager
- Maintaining an effective filing system and case management diary. The job holder will have responsibility for their own caseload
- Assisting in the compilation of monthly management reports
- Property matters across the Group’s portfolio as and when directed
Knowledge and Experience
LPC & LLB/CPE qualification is essential
Full training will be given, but ideally candidates should possess the following:
- Good communication skills (both written and oral) with the ability to take initiative and complete tasks
- Some practical experience of Court procedures would be an advantage (but not essential)
- Good organisational skills
- Ability to liaise successfully with other departments within the business
- Good IT skills
