The Network Architecture & Conformance function is pivotal to our transformation, it is a central team within Network Architecture & Engineering, responsible for the global network and perimeter infrastructure architecture and the associated underpinning technology services which run and secure the technology engine of Maersk
Reporting to the Head of Network Architecture & Conformance you will serve as a Lead Network Platform Architect. This role is responsible for platform architecture and solution engineering across transformative automation and orchestration initiatives focused on modernizing, cloudifying, scaling and segmenting Maersk’s global network and perimeter infrastructure which enable the fixed and wireless connectivity services that underpin the integrator strategy.
It has a critical role to play as we continue to develop our long-term multi-technology and multi-product network and perimeter capabilities, connecting our asset, sites and people on land and at sea. Specific Job Requirements -
Work across Network Product Engineering and Network OSS Engineering to define the specifications and perform impact assessments; ensuring a collaborative approach and consensus agreement of the performance and customer experience parameters of the Network Functions Virtualisation Infrastructure (NFVI) platforms which host the network and perimeter VNFs across Network Edge, Enterprise Edge and Cloud.
Responsible for the integrity of engineered solutions ensuring alignment with the network architecture; design and document multi-tenant and geo-distributed NFVI platform solutions which are unprivileged, scalable, reliable, secure and programmable through software.
Identify, define and engineer the right set of platform enabling DNS, DHCP, IPAM, Time synchronisation and Instrumentation technologies to support self-service consumption and in-life operations across the Network Edge, Enterprise Edge and Cloud at scale.
Design, build and maintain the platform workflows and toolchains that enable deployment automation and standardization for network and perimeter services as converged network applications. Document, publish and maintain integration designs for systems entities and their interfaces.
Implement and publish APIs for consumers to adopt NFVI platform services in a consistent way. Work with Network Product Engineering and TSE Engineering teams to prioritize features for ongoing sprints and implement features based on service line demand, industry trends, known defects, and issues.
Work with network engineering peer’s, architecture and operational teams to define the implementation roadmap and scope sprints to deliver faster business outcomes across the team.
Provide subject matter expertise to contribute to the bottom-up-build process required to support budgeting and investment cases.

Provide NFVI capabilities as an internal product platform with streamlined fulfilment journeys that accelerates the delivery of network and perimeter services such that Maersk is self-sufficient in the company’s ability to deliver on its strategic remit.

Install, build and enhance the system tier and deployment support model, allowing for continuous deployment and availability in a NetSecOps environment. In that context, you will play a key role in the agile release process, participating in initiatives associated with release engineering, network application deployment, system installation, monitoring, scripting, building schemas, load testing and various automation tasks.

Operate with a high degree of autonomy, including leading on infrastructure management and system admin, your work will create the path that enables weekly or daily deployment of network and perimeter services as code

Be a world class expert in the platform engineering domain, acting as a L2-to-resolution escalation specialist and responsible towards the Technology Operations Centre (TOC), ensuring that Network Edge, Enterprise Edge and Cloud Network platform services are in line with in-life operations SLA’s.

Measure and optimize NFVI platform performance, pushing our capabilities forward, getting ahead of upstream needs, and innovating for continual improvement.

Design, build and manage a representative NFVI Network Integration Test (NIT) model to enable quality assurance of all network designs ahead of production deployment.

Provide subject matter expertise to implementation and operational teams to guide deployment and in-life troubleshooting of Network Edge, Enterprise Edge and Cloud Networking services.

Ensure the successful incremental design, build, deploy and operate of the current capability stack while modernizing and transforming to enable the future strategy.

Regularly provide a transparent view of NFVI platform development progress and design commitments.
What I'll be doing – your accountabilities?
Network Cloudification – Design, build, maintenance of the NFVI ecosystem in support of the modernisation and transformation agenda for network and perimeter. Balancing the adoption of next generation technologies with mature solutions and insourced capability with outsourced services:

Design and implement scalable and reliable NFVI platforms to support network and perimeter service development, that are delivered to time, cost and quality. Ensuring that platform capabilities are easily consumed “As-a-Service’ and are simultaneously compliant with Maersk technology architecture standards and security policies.

Develop, implement and maintain workflows and tools to deploy, monitor, harden and administer physical and virtual platform infrastructure

Build internal, external and third-party supplier relationships to ensure full commitment and support in execution of the architecture into operational designs

Define SLA/SLO/SLI's which meet businesses requirements and root cause analysis where thresholds are breached

Improve reliability, quality, and time-to-restore for NFVI platform services across the estate, within SLAs
-
Provide subject matter expertise to delivery and L1 operational teams to guide deployment and in-life troubleshooting of converged networking and perimeter services running over the top

Continually improve operations processes to drive efficiency and lower operational costs
The Candidate -
To be considered for this opportunity candidates will have the following capabilities.

A demonstrable track record operating as a Senior Network Engineer that has transitioned to Platform Engineering network SME; with 10+ years’ experience in network design and enterprise cloud technology adoption in multi-vendor production environments in a globally focused business

Lead Engineer level credibility with hands-on experience within a Systems Integrator, Service Provider, Network Technology Vendor or Multi-National Corporation (MNC)

Solid understanding and expertise in networks and the supporting ecosystem, including key protocols and standards, experienced in engaging on network topics at all levels internally and externally:
-
Traditional – Routing & Switching, DC LAN, IPSec, FW, Load Balancers, Web Proxies and DDI

Next-Gen – NFV|SDN|L2/L3VPN|CLOS Fabrics|NGFW|WAF etc

Tooling – Active and Passive Instrumentation, NPMD and APM

OSS – EMS, ETSI MANO, LSO, TOSCA, IBN, API integrations, data modelling – NETCONF/YANG, etc

Virtual Infrastructure –Openstack, KVM/QEMU, LXC, Kubernetes, VMWare and Docker

Solid understanding and expertise of bare-metal infrastructure provisioning (PXE/iPXE), cloud native engineering, virtual networking technologies and deployment options

Solid understanding and expertise in optimising virtual network functions (SRI-OV/DPDK etc).

Experience with open networking technologies: e.g. Routing Daemons (FRR, Bird, GoBGP), Virtual Networking (Tungsten Fabric), Linux Networking (eBPF, VPP, XDP), Cumulus or other Linux-based NOS

Experience of engineering custom scripts/software to manage legacy hardware devices, with the ability to leverage various tools to manage legacy network systems, as well as modern x86 based VNF stacks

Experience with design and capacity management of complex distributed systems environments, including failover techniques, recovery/rollback, and environment partitioning

Deep expertise in Automation, IaC, configuration management tools and high level programming languages: e.g. Python, Golang, Bash, Saltstack, Ansible, Nephio, Chef, Puppet, Terraform, with demonstrable expertise of DevSecOps, Agile methodologies and CI/CD

Expertise with modern observability platforms (Prometheus/PromQL, Grafana, etc)
