As Lead Economist you will manage Turner & Townsend's UK-based Economics, Research and Market Intelligence business unit (ERMI), which provides construction cost information and economic trends to business stakeholders. Working on a variety of Turner & Townsend projects and initiatives, you will be responsible for: producing and executing the organisation's UK market intelligence programme; monetising their economics service offering; and ensuring the delivery of clear, concise and scalable analytical solutions to support technical members of staff.
Key accountabilities
- Production of Turner & Townsends’s flagship UK market intelligence document. All aspects of delivery undertaken each quarter, including content creation, design development, and project management.
- Support the delivery of Turner & Townsend’s annual International Construction Market Survey - a market leading global collation of industry cost data. Management of all aspects of data collation, quality assurance, analysis, chart design and content review.
- Creation of monthly 400-word construction data insights articles, published in Construction Manager Magazine, online and in print.
- Delivery of fee earning work: (forecasting / benchmarking / sector and country market reports) - maintaining existing outputs and generate new fee earning opportunities to grow team and enhance service offering.
- Facilitate business support function - support the UK Cost Management division on the provision of construction economic information and research as required / requested.
- Responsible for the execution of our quarterly contractor survey - survey design, issuance, collation, quality assurance, analysis and dashboard outputs and drive continual improvements.
- Regular delivery of presentations and webinars to global key accounts and at external and internal events.
- Maintain a database of external and proprietary statistical data for the ERMI, using R, Python, STATA, Excel, Tableau and Microsoft Power BI to analyse and visualise data and produce regular dashboard reporting.
- Maintain an online library of construction intelligence reports and have good knowledge of where relevant analysis and data can be sourced.

Desirable skills and experience
Previous experience or a sound and suitable understanding of the following will be a distinct advantage in applying for this role:
- Broad knowledge of the construction industry
- Knowledge of a programming language or willingness to learn (STATA, R, E-Views, SAS or similar statistical platforms)
- Understanding of visual analytics software or willingness to learn (Tableau and Microsoft Power BI are of particular interest)
- Knowledge of econometric techniques: economic impact assessment; cost benefit analysis; and forecasting models are desirable
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to explain economic concepts and quantitative results, as well as their implications, to non-specialists, in plain English for a business audience
- Proficiency in Excel
- Ability to work using own initiative and without close supervision
- Previous line management responsibility
- Undergraduate Degree (or equivalent) in a course that is Economics based entirely, or as part of a joint honours programme
- Masters in Economics, Finance, Statistics or Mathematics (or construction related subjects) is sought
- Ideally hold or be working towards an appropriate professional body membership or equivalent
