ABOUT THE ROLE
As the nation moves to transition its public transit fleets to zero emission platforms, GILLIG is seeking a highly motivated and passionate control systems professional to lead its zero-emission vehicle troubleshooting and diagnostic efforts at our manufacturing site in Livermore, CA.
This is a new role within GILLIG and you will serve as a subject matter expert on the newest and most technologically advanced GILLIG vehicle platforms and technologies. As the Lead Controls Systems Technician, you will be are responsible for providing diagnostics and technical support for GILLIG's portfolio of zero emission vehicles during the manufacturing process, including the initial road tests prior to delivering to our end customers. You will be expected to be very hands on while building a small supporting team of other qualified technicians around you.
You will have the goal of resolving complex technical issues on zero emission vehicles in a timely manner. Working regularly with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Product Engineering and Customer Care, you will be trusted to provide detailed information necessary to determine root cause and corrective actions as well as assist in the development of instructions for repetitive repairs.
As the Lead Controls System Technician, you will report directly to GILLIG's head of Manufacturing Engineering. You will possess a passion for problem solving and be willing to continuously learn new troubleshooting and diagnostic technologies.
- Resolve complex technical issues on recently produced electric vehicles in a timely manner
- Effectively communicate technical issues on Zero Emission vehicles with Product Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing Engineering and Customer Care
- Participate in root cause investigations and resolution with cross functional GILLIG teams including Product Engineering, Quality and Customer Care
- Serve as one of the subject matter experts on the diagnostics and repair for new GILLIG vehicle platforms and technologies
- Document failure analysis, troubleshooting steps and repair processes to ensure repetitive items can be quickly resolved and corrective actions are put in place to prevent future failures
- Develop innovative approaches, and processes to improve GILLIG's diagnostic and troubleshooting ability on zero emission vehicles
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Associates Degree in Electronic Technology (or similar) or Bachelor's Degree in a related Engineering field
- Results driven individual with a minimum of 5+ years of professional and/or military experience in a related field
- Strong experience in problem solving techniques and documentation of corrective action plans
- Ability to read engineering drawings and electrical schematics with extensive knowledge in electrical systems architecture and machine controls
- Ability to prioritize with excellent organizational as well as written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to use Telematics, SCADA and/or a comprehensive suite of computer software/tools to accurately diagnose issues
- Proficient with the use of analytical tools including a VOM, oscilloscope, HMI, and circuit analyzers
- Comprehensive computer skills
- Certified in High Voltage Safety procedures, Fall Protection, LOTO and industrial safety practices
- Familiarity with electric vehicle powertrain systems and CCS charging
- 2+ years apprenticeship or equivalent experience in Control Systems troubleshooting/ programming
- 2+ years of experience with Motor Controls (motor starts, variable frequency drives, DC drives, and standard electrical components)
- 2+ years of experience with repair of control network components
- 1+ years of experience with Programmable Logic Controls (PLC) programs
- 1+ years of experience with Industrial electrical hands-on experience and troubleshooting
- Project Management experience with the ability to train others
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
- Working from ladders, heights and underbody chassis components required
- Regularly required to sit, stand and walk and occasionally kneel or squat
- Minimal to no travel
- May be required to work weekends based on business needs
- Standard start time for this role is 6:00AM (negotiable)
EXPECTED COMPENSATION
$75,000 - $275,000/annual salary + premium benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job classification, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
