LCA Analyst

GSK has announced new ambitious environmental sustainability goals to have a net zero impact on climate and a net positive impact on nature by 2030 across our entire end to end value chain.

This position is part to the Ecodesign workstream, sitting within GSK’s Group Sustainability Team. In addition to acting as a custodian of GSK’s Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Standard and of GSK’s Product Footprinting Tool (PFT), this role will support the delivery of all technical aspects of the sustainability strategy for both existing and next generation products.

There is remote working flexibility in this role, however you would be expected to be UK / Europe based and work at GSK House site periodically.

In this role you will

  • Act as a recognised global expert and leader in LCAs, with strong delivery mindset and communication style to engage our employees globally.
  • Value chain & Product Footprinting:
    • Become GSK’s product footprint expert, performing LCAs that will be used to identify hotspots and opportunities to reduce the footprint across climate and nature and support product related environmental claims.
    • Help to create and maintain reduction glidepaths in any hotspots identified.
    • Upskilling: Support the training and accreditation of GSK personnel and maintenance of associated training materials.
    • Governance: Change control and maintenance of GSK’s footprints.
    • Building repository of best practices and sharing them to amplify stakeholder engagement and promote consistent application.
    • Develop systems and reporting to increase access and availability of data that enables better decision making.
    • Support delivery of critical Ecodesign projects, taking an active role to manage and drive towards delivery as required.
  • Build partnerships across matrix teams, supporting GSK’s Group Sustainability and Ecodesign teams to ensure the necessary technical sustainability capabilities are in place to meet the evolving business and regulatory requirements.
  • Support GSK Central Sustainability strategies to address three overarching environmental focus areas: a) Technical sustainability integration and collaboration, including stakeholder upskilling, b) product End-of-Life impacts and c) environmental impacts of manufacturing with focus on circularity, emerging technologies, packaging and delivery systems, raw materials, pharmaceuticals in environment etc.

  • An interest in sustainability and/or lifecycle assessments
  • LCA or Carbon Footprints expertise (preferred but not essential).
  • Ability to independently work cross functionally.
  • Curiosity and ability to analyse complex, high dimensional data sets, building novel, innovative models to solve challenging business problems and/or identifying untapped opportunities.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Engineering, Science, Environmental Science, Environment Management, Business or related fields.
  • Excellent written skills, with specific experience authoring reports/requests and other related deliverables.
  • Excellent communication skills; a pro-active and collaborative team approach, promoting inclusivity, support and motivation amongst peers; a desire to go beyond process and procedure, with an ability to think innovatively to enhance program outcomes.
  • Fast thinking and versatile; able to navigate through complex environment; multi-tasking.
  • Be able to compile, integrate and analyse data from multiple sources to answer business questions.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive positive change in sustainability with credibility and the ability to influence at senior levels of the organisation without direct line management.
  • Experience and in-depth scientific/technical knowledge of pharmaceutical products, whether in process development, product development, scale-up, or operations (preferred but not essential).
