Job Summary

As a Sr Commercial Law Clerk/Underwriter, you will underwrite and issue commercial title insurance policies for commercial real estate transactions across Canada (excluding Quebec) with a focus on national law firms customers. In addition, you will educate customers on the benefits of commercial title insurance, due diligence requirements and title insurance coverage.
Provide second level underwriting support to law clerks and intermediate law clerks for commercial transactions including transactions over $50M.
You will be the first point of contact for national law firms for transactions over $50M. Typically, title insurance orders for this customer group are more complex and interactions are with senior law clerks and senior lawyers. FCT senior law clerk must have experience and knowledge of transactional issues, policy coverage and endorsements in order to have effective conversations with this sophisticated customer segment.
HERE’S HOW YOU’LL CONTRIBUTE:
- Review lawyer’s title memorandums, due diligence, searches in order to prepare title insurance policies for commercial real estate transactions
- Provide information to customers regarding commercial title insurance coverage, underwriting guidelines, endorsements, quotes and procedures
- A strong customer focus with the ability to effectively build and maintain collaborative relationships with customers as well as business partners across the organization
- Support team members by sharing knowledge, providing guidance and collaborating in order to meet deadlines
HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL BRING:
- Law Clerk Diploma or relevant work experience
- Ten (10) years’ experience as a real estate law clerk in a law firm and/or title insurance environment handling commercial and/or residential real estate transactions
- Technical knowledge of the practice of real estate law and an understanding of the mechanics of a real estate transaction
- Professional and customer service focused, with excellent communication skills
- Ability to pay attention to detail while managing multiple tasks in a fast paced environment
- Ability to work independently as well as with a team
- Excellent computer skills – MS Office Suite
