Land and Animal Worker
Salary per annum = £22,192 - £23,165 without qualification
Once qualified salary will be £24,717 with earnings potential to £26,867 after further experience gained. 40 hrs per week, 52 weeks per year
Grace Garden School is a new, exciting and innovative provision which will offer full time education to children from 9-16 years who have significant/complex social, emotional or educational difficulties. We are part of the Ruskin Mill Trust.
For over 30 years, Ruskin Mill Trust has provided Specialist Independent Education to children and adults with complex needs including learning difficulties, autistic spectrum conditions and disabilities. We are seeking to appoint a Land and Animal Worker at Grace Garden School to support the day-to-day running of the land, to support the animal husbandry and landscaping activities. You will organise and give guidance on appropriate work for students, staff and volunteers, using biodynamic agriculture principles and methodology.
The successful candidate will role model the interaction with nature, the land, the animals, the farm, students, staff and parents. They will prepare the garden for use as an educational facility and manage projects in a market garden, in collaboration with the teachers and teaching assistants.
To apply and embed an understanding of biodynamic practice and culture throughout the school – this will involve working with the Land Manager to deliver staff training.
It will be beneficial if you have:
- Training in Biodynamic Agriculture or willing to attend training and work towards a qualification.
- Experience of the working in line with the seasonal cycles and/or the biodynamic calendar
- Experience of working with young people with learning disabilities and who may be less likely to engage with mainstream educational approaches – Training will be given
- Experience of managing a diverse workload and meeting strict deadlines
You will need to:
- Commute to both sites in Bristol (Grace Garden School and the Helios Health Centre site)
- Work one weekend per month (on a rota basis) to support the Land Team with animal and land tasks.
