Sciantec, part of Cawood Scientific, has the ability to assess and evaluate the raw materials for animal feedstuffs, finished feeds, pharmaceutical compounds, pre-mixes, forages, combinable grains and pulses. Animal nutrition activities include feeds for all agricultural livestock, companion animals, the equine sector and aquaculture. Along with our sister laboratory, Sciantec provides a full microbiological testing service for the group.
Sciantec have an exciting opportunity for a Chromatography laboratory Technician to join their team on a full-time permanent bases based in Selby.
The purpose of this role is to prepare and analyse samples within agree timeframes which ensure they are reported on time to our customers, while ensuring all HSE, quality and turnaround time requirements are meet
Key Responsibilities:

- To communicate with all co-workers in a professional manner if there are any discrepancies/queries and taking charge of ensuring emails are addressed and dealt with promptly or within a reasonable timescale.
- Sorting of samples and ensuring they correspond with the relevant paperwork
- Prepare and analyse all samples accurately and in a timely manner
- Correctly report all samples into LIMS.
- Prepare chemical standards and reagents in line with our Standard Operating Procedures
- Understand and follow the Standard Operating Procedures provided.
- Maintain Cawood credibility by always portraying a positive image by keeping equipment and PPE clean.
- Respect company equipment ensuring to use them as per guidelines and to report any damage to management as soon as possible.
- Work as a team and maintaining morale and actively offer help and assistance wherever possible.
- Responsible for keeping safety at the forefront of lab work and being proactive ensuring accidents and near misses are always reported straightaway to Managers in line with our company accreditation and policy.
- When required, assist with on-site training of new employees providing proactive support ensuring there onboarding into the company is friendly, engaging, and inspiring.
- Use of the following instrumentation, after successful training, HPLC, GC-FID, UV-VIS and Amino Acid analysers

- Understanding of ISO, UKAS, audit procedures and methods.
- Enthusiastic, energetic and team focused.
- Must be able to work effectively and collaborate within own team and other sections.
- Must take initiative and have the ability to conduct hands-on work
- Must possess the ability to handle multiple tasks with high attention to detail.
- Highly organised and excellent time management skills.
- Good laboratory skills and practices as well as food/feed chemistry and chromatography techniques
- Must be able to effectively articulate (verbally and in writing) to technical and non-technical personnel.
- Excellent Microsoft office skills.
- Experience within an ISO17025 laboratory. Ideally chromatography based.
- Ideally hold a Degree or higher in science (chemistry, food chemistry/science)
