Role description:

Colorifix pilot scale site in Cambridge is looking for a Laboratory assistant. This role will be key to support the fermentation team. The assistant will be responsible for preparing solutions and media, carrying out laboratory tests when needed, ordering, and organising supplies, maintaining equipment records and daily work logs and discussing and answering any questions regarding the results obtained.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Proactive behaviour on assisting the day-to-day routine in the laboratory including hazard waste disposal.
  • Routine maintenance of equipment and ensuring the laboratory is always clean and tidy.
  • Know how to follow standard protocols and guidelines to prepare samples, reagents, media, solutions.
  • Be able to maintain inventory tracking, accurate record keeping, and following Standard Operating Procedures for assigned tasks.
  • Flexible team player that is committed to the success of the team.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills: report writing, and verbal communication skills are a necessity.

Role Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree with scientific discipline or 1-2 years’ experience.
  • Experience in the use of conventional laboratory equipment (e.g. centrifugation, microscope, spectrophotometer, pH meter).
  • Some understanding of microbiology and working with aseptic technique.
  • Experience with quality control templates for data analysis.
  • Experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience of strain management.

Reports to: Fermentation Manager

Location: Cambridge

Remuneration: £23-26,000

Holidays: 25 + BH + Birthday
