The Role:
We are looking for a part-time Laboratory Technician to work up to 20 hours across 5 days per week to support our Biology Team based at the Unity Campus on the outskirts of Saffron Walden.
What Are We Looking For You To Do In This Exciting New Role?
When you join Domainex we will be looking for you to have the ability to:
- Receive and register deliveries to site, unpack and put away consumables in a designated location and distribution of chemicals to the appropriate scientist.
- Book-in deliveries on the procurement system, and file hard copies of shipping documents. Liaise with the accounts team at Domainex Ltd for invoicing of goods received.
- Recycling of packaging in line with the company’s policies.
- Collection of waste (general, laboratory and chemical) from the laboratories and transferred for suitable disposal.
- Collection and cleaning of empty solvent glass containers and prepare for recycling. Act as the primary contact with the recycling provider so organising any collection and ensuring all paperwork is completed.
- Work as part of a team of laboratory technicians in the washing (via manual and automated processes) of core glassware to support laboratory activities.
- Arrange for regular laundry of laboratory coats set and work as part of team of laboratory technicians to ensure sufficient clean visitor PPE (lab coat and safety spectacles) are always available at designated points.
- Organise rota systems for scientists to assist you with receipt of deliveries, unpacking chemicals and consumables when needed covering holidays and out of hour working.
- Monitor fume hood velocity performance weekly (internal training will be arranged) and notify facilities management if issues are identified.
- Prepare routine laboratory solvent mixtures as required (internal training will be arranged).
What Skills Will You Have?
- A very well organised individual, with strong interpersonal skills and excellent.
- Demonstrated ability to plan own time carefully to efficiently perform a series of tasks in a day.
- Ability to follow instruction and adjust priorities as required.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Good IT skills using mainly Microsoft office programmes.
- Any prior experience of working in a laboratory setting would be advantageous but not essential.
