Main Purpose of the Job
To support laboratory staff by maintaining consumable and solvent stock, chemical inventory, glassware, equipment, logs, and record books as well as troubleshooting and resolving problems and helping with special projects.
Role and Responsibilities
- Chemical inventory management (SAP) including booking in / out and stock checking.
- Maintain smooth operation of the laboratories by clearing away clean glassware, restocking consumables, replenishing hand towels etc.
- Managing stock of, and ordering of, consumable items and solvents.
- Carry out the lab cleaning and ensure that work areas are clean and tidy.
- Waste disposal – chemical, recycling and general.
- Reviewing invoices on Mfiles.
- Liaising with other departments (Quality, Warehouse, POP) regarding orders and deliveries.
- Regular lab checks of airflow, balances, eye wash and emergency shower including record keeping.
- Keep equipment operating by following standard operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance and calling for repairs.
Requirements
- This is a great role for someone with previous experience of working in a manual job such as warehouse worker or bar work
- This role does not require a scientific qualification as it is not an R&D position
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Good attention to detail
- Self-motivated, well organised and pro-active learner.
- Flexible and reliable .
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- A good understanding of laboratory housekeeping and safety practices
- Own transport required due to location
