Job Summary
Assist management with store openings and closings in accordance with established procedures on a regular basis. Assist management in training store personnel. Operate and maintain a cash register; collect monies, count change, and prepare receipts; balance the cash register drawer and print routine register print-outs; prepare and deliver bank deposits. Respond to customers questions and assist customers who are donating items. Maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of merchandise and displays.
Maintain the neatness and security of the cash register area; secure merchandise and the cash register. Clean display racks and shelves; sweep and mop floors; cleans windows, mirrors, and helps maintain overall cleanliness of store. Answer the store telephone in a tactful and courteous manner.
Acts as store manager in the absence of Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager. Opens and closes the store, in accordance with established procedures, on a regular basis.Assist management in training store personnel in various store activities.
Assists customer purchasing items from The Salvation Army by ringing up sales utilizing a cash register; collect monies, count change and prepare receipts; prepare and package purchased items; prepare and balance the cash drawer and run routine register print-outs; prepare and deliver bank deposits; ensure the security and accountability of all cash register funds and sales records in accordance with established Salvation Army operating procedures.
Prepares, process, and maintain various sales records, tax forms, and social service vouchers; prepare routine sales reports. Maintains the neatness and security of the cash register area; ensure that forms, bags, and other similar items are adequately stocked.
Assists customers who are donating items to The Salvation Army; direct customers to the proper loading/unloading area; may assist with moving donations to the storage area; prepare and provide tax receipts. Understands the mission of the Adult Rehabilitation Centers and be able to clearly communicate the mission to customers.
Rags out merchandise and puts new merchandise out in colorized order per established Salvation Army policies and procedures. Display and arrange merchandise as directed; check all displays to ensure that items are maintained and displayed in a neat and orderly manner; rotate and/or rearrange stock as directed; return items to the proper location after customer’s have handled.
Answer the store telephone in a tactful and courteous manner; assist customers by responding to questions and providing directions and/or general information; may schedule and record donation pick-ups. Clean all display racks and shelves; sweep and mop floors; clean windows and mirrors; ensure that the store is maintained in a clean and inviting manner.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of effective customer service techniques. Knowledge of the principles and practices of basic mathematics. Ability to read, write, and effectively communicate in the English language.
Education and Experience
High School diploma or G.E.D. preferred and experience working in a retail store preferred or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to operate a cash register. Ability to accurately and timely perform routine mathematical computations and count change. Ability to operate and answer the telephone.
Generally limited physical effort required associated with sitting, walking, standing, lifting, bending, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, 75% to 100% of work time. May include carrying, pushing, pulling or moving objects (typically less than 50 lbs.) 25-50% of work time.
Work is generally performed in a normal store environment where there would be little or no physical discomforts associated with weather changes or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt and the like. Some work may be performed in a warehouse environment where there would be physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
