Division / Department - Operations Command Grade - Surrey Police Grade C / Sussex Police Grade 6 Status - Part Time Contract Type - Permanent Salary Grade Range - Surrey Police £20,572 - £23,506 / Sussex Police £21,837 - £23,100 Working Hours - 21.6 Hours per Week Politically Restricted - No The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.

The Role

To care for the health and welfare of all dogs housed in a busy kennels at Surrey Police Dog Training School.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain a high standard of care to all dogs housed at the school by providing adequate exercise and ensuring the kennels, runs and immediate surroundings are kept to a high standard of cleanliness at all times.

To prepare feed in accordance with individual dogs' requirements and feed dogs housed at Surrey Police Dog Training School.

To provide the welfare needs of the dog by following any administration of medical treatments.

Carry out grooming regimes dependent on the individual dogs needs.

Allocate kennels for dogs required to be housed in the busy kennel complex.

To supervise deliveries of stock ensuring the correct stock is delivered and where appropriate to assist with unloading deliveries.

Assist with the Force breeding programme, caring for the health and welfare of litters of puppies at the school and helping to providing continual development and environmental awareness.

To carry out admin tasks such as kennel bookings and completion of daily kennel and behaviour records.

Skills & Experience

It is essential the post-holder has a genuine interest in the care and welfare of small animals and has at least 2 years’ experience working within a kennel environment.

It is preferable the post-holder holds an appropriate qualification.

It is essential the post-holder has good interpersonal and communication skills.

It is essential the post-holder is able to forward plan and work with minimum supervision.

It is essential the post-holder is the holder of a full licence to drive motor vehicles (manual) and preferably experience in driving vehicle similar in size to a Ford transit.

It is essential for the post-holder is computer literate with appropriate key board skills.

It is essential the post-holder has the ability to work under pressure, is able to prioritize their work load with the capacity to be flexible in their approach whilst working to time scales.

This post includes working weekends and public holidays. The working pattern consists of 3 shifts on, 2 days off. Shift times vary between 0630-1600, 0830-1800, 1000-1900 and will include night shifts when litters of puppies are present at the Dog School.
