Purpose
Pawprints Kennels are looking to recruit a kennel assistant to help with their award-winning kennel establishment in Nangreaves, Bury. The successful candidate will assist with the daily running of the kennels, caring for the dogs and their clients and upholding the excellent service offered by Pawprints. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working with animals as well as a great opportunity to provide excellent face to face client care to customers.
The role is within the hours of 9:00 -17:00. Days of work will need to be flexible and is built around the needs of the business and WILL involve weekend & Bank Holiday work. A flexible approach to working days and hours is essential as extra hours may be required at short notice and change in shift pattern may also be required.
A lot of the work will be outdoors and you will be required to work in all weather conditions.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Exercising dogs individually throughout the day in one of our dog paddocks
- Supervising in our “yappy hour” sessions where dogs are able to play together during their stay.
- Preparing meals for dogs including any special diets.
- Administering medication if required.
- Keeping kennels clean and hygienic, sweeping out and removing waste.
- Handling dogs individually, where necessary, to make sure they are obedient and well-behaved.
- Taking bookings via telephone, social media and email using an online booking system
- Checking customers in and out of the kennels, completing all necessary paperwork including checking up to date vaccinations and taking payment
- Job is physically demanding and includes outside work in all weathers.
- The successful applicant will be confident dealing with animals and customers and must be able to use a computer and be confident in talking to people on the phone.
- Updating Pawprints various Social Media platforms with photos of dogs that are staying with us along with writing content for Pawprints blog & social posts.
- Pampering dogs whilst they stay at Pawprints by bathing and trimming nails if required.
- Manage bookings of our dog paddock via our online booking system and greet customers to ensure their needs are met.
Qualification/Skill Requirements
- Currently studying for an Ofqual level 2 in animal management/care or above is required.
- Must have worked in the animal industry previously as previous experience is essential to the role.
- A successful candidate must be punctual.
- Able to be flexible with working hours.
- Able to identify a wide range of dog breeds on sight.
- Have stamina and fitness for physical tasks.
- Be caring and patient.
- Be reliable and able to act on their own initiative.
- Be able to act fast under pressure in executing daily tasks.
- Be able to calm anxious and nervous animals.
- Be practical and prepared to deal with dirt and waste.
- Have good communication/customer service skills.
- Driving licence is desired due to the location of the kennels being away from usual public transportation.

Salary: Up to £10.50 per hour
