BBC Studios currently has an exciting Junior Business Analyst opportunity within the Production Toolkit team. We are looking for a Junior Technical BA to play a pivotal role in helping define, evolve, maintain, and support our suite of eleven applications.
We work across TV and Content Production to deliver effective web applications to enable continuous improvement in the BBC. To do this we require a talented, enthusiastic Junior BA that has a good technical understanding, and has experience working in an agile team on web products.
We are a small and busy team, who like to work together to deliver applications that exceed our customer’s expectations. The work can be varied taking you from a story continuity application to an event-planning tool, and working with clients such as EastEnders and Doctor Who.
You will join a team of five developers and a Senior Tester. This is a team effort with everyone having a part to play and a voice to shape the products we make. You will report directly to the Senior Product Manager.
- Work closely with the Senior Product Manager and the rest of the development team to gather, understand, prioritise new requirements, and run requirements gathering/definition workshops with key stakeholders across the business
- Translate technical requirements (both functional and non-functional) for services and/or products into user stories and acceptance criteria
- Write up user stories and acceptance criteria into JIRA tickets; tracking their progress and communicating this back to key stakeholders
- Provide day to day operational support, ensuring tickets are reviewed in a timely fashion and stakeholders are kept updated on progress
- Release management; working with the Senior Product Manager, Senior Developer, and Senior Tester to plan releases, scheduling them in JIRA and in Outlook
- Ensuring our pages/areas on Confluence and Lean IX are kept up to date, reviewing on a regular basis
- Attend (and sometimes lead) regular meetings as and when required
- Collaborate and interact with multi-disciplined development teams, contributing to the definition of the product and ensuring that there is a clear understanding of what is being delivered
- Understand and help maintain a clear product vision across the whole team - be aware of BBC Studios product and technology strategy and help to work towards it
- Help facilitate decision making with stakeholders and the development team
- Investigate solutions using a range of approaches, including researching competitor products, commercially available solutions, other BBC products and services
- Gather, analyse, and report on usage data or other such relevant data in support of measuring the performance and value of product features.
- Assist with identifying the scope of new features and consult with the development team to establish effort
- Understand and analyse current processes and workflows. Identify opportunities for improvement
- Communicate project issues so there is an understanding of the problem and the options for how it would be solved
- Gain approval and sign-off on new features through demos and user acceptance testing.
- Assist in testing new features, ensuring the delivered solution meets the acceptance criteria including regression testing of new features
- Contribute to BA best practice in the department and the development of the business analysis discipline

Essential
- A basic understanding of Agile software development methodologies and ceremonies

- Can work proactively to resolve project issues and mitigate project risks
- Demonstrable experience of using relevant documenting and diagramming techniques, such as Domain Models, Process Flow, Use Cases, User Stories, User Journeys, Acceptance Criteria.
- Tools including JIRA, Confluence and Lean IX
- Business analysis experience, with focus on delivering value to audiences in an iterative way
Desirable
- Experience working in agile team
- Experience working within a media or similarly complex multi-site organisation
