The Explosives Engineering GIS team at RPS are a fast-growing team that work alongside their RPS colleagues around the world to give GIS support and advice across multiple disciplines, whether it be in the fast-growing renewable energy sector, the construction industry or the Oil and Gas sector.

We now need a Junior Consultant with a knowledge of GIS software and an educational background in GIS, Environmental Management/Conservation, Earth Sciences or Surveying to join our GIS Team in Edinburgh to work with the wider team of consultants to ensure that all projects and client portfolios are delivered accurately and on time in line with client requirements.

What you’ll be doing

  • Assist with and produce GIS mapping of a high quality to support various disciplines
  • Assist with GIS/data management and QA & QC of data/deliverables
  • Data gathering and plotting for Offshore Environmental Impact Assessments
  • Data gathering and quality checking of 3rd party data sources and websites
  • Interaction with and technical support to clients where appropriate.
  • Supporting the GIS team during meetings with clients and contractors.
  • Act as an integral member of the RPS GIS Team giving input into the development of technical systems.
  • Work on a diverse range of projects, both as an individual and as part of a team including large EIA projects and UXO related projects
  • Potential for travel to support projects in the UK and globally
  • Focus on demonstrating ‘best value’ for established and emerging remedial solutions.
  • May contribute with basic content for proposals

Who we’re looking for

  • Ideally we are looking for candidates with a Degree (BSc) or (MSc) in GIS, Environmental Management/Conservation, Earth Sciences/Surveying or similar associated subject
  • Knowledge of GIS software, including ESRI ArcMap, ESRI ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, QGIS
  • A knowledge of Geographic data handling and offshore developments, permitting and impact assessments
  • An interest in geography, cartography, surveying, or earth sciences disciplines
  • A problem solver with ability to deliver solutions and technical excellence with the ability to remain calm under pressure
