The Role


This is an excellent opportunity for a junior engineer with minimal hands on experience to join a global leader embarking on a state of the art Azure Net New build & Migration.

You will be a passionate and committed learner and SSP will develop you via the Microsoft ESI program.

You will work under the Senior Engineer and in conjunction with our Data Systems Analystand QA. Beyond just the Power BI Univariate and into the multivariate modelling world.

We are truly modernising our core systems of record and enabling digital and technology innovation. A key aspect to this journey is the data driven enterprise, with data management, analytics and insight and intelligent solutions as fundamental building blocks. This role will need to develop high quality data, BI and ML/AI solutions primarily with Microsoft Azure data and BI services and M Power BI.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the senior engineer on migration schedules and net new build iterations.
  • Support the Senior Data Engineer to Develop and Test data ingestion components and products.
  • Write and communicate data and analytics documentation.
  • Support the Senior Engineer in developing new wave solutions around dynamic product andingredient hierarchies such as non relational and mongo db type solutions.
  • Support and maintain effective operational running of analytics systems
  • Work to develop and adhere to the Agile software engineering methodology
  • Communication and Impact - Strong communication skills suitable for liaison with both team members and senior management. Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication with colleagues, clients and customers and act in a professional manner, and exhibit the required behaviour that should act as an example to the team.
  • QualityConscious – Be aware of key business objectives and ensure these are applied appropriately to all development activities. Delivering quality design and specification documentation to support the delivery of Group IT’s Solutions projects.

Skills and Knowledge


Essential

  • Strong engineering experience in Azure data and BI services or equivalent
  • Software engineering best practices e.g. version control.
  • Be competent with established engineering principles in the Microsoft Azure Platform.
  • Power BI Pipelines.
  • Data modelling tools and techniques beyond univariate and into multivariate.
  • Experience in writing complex analytical queries for large datasets.
  • Experience working in Agile teams
  • Experience working with DevOps tooling
  • Structured approach to documentation and interpreting business requirements.
  • Experience of testing applications, manually or through automation technologies.
  • A 'can-do' attitude to challenges; energised by change and thriving in team-based work
  • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and customer facing skills and ability to establish good working relationships with a wide range of people.
  • A passion for working with data to solve business problems and create new opportunities

Desirable

  • Some Data migration experience highly desirable.
  • An awareness of Python, R or other similar programming languages.
  • An interest in machine learning engineering or a desire to skill up.
  • Retail, Food & Beverage or Hospitality industry experience
  • Experience using data within an analytics environment from core enterprise solutions including Oracle Simphony, SAP S4, SAP SuccessFactors.
