An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and keen individual to join our dynamic and forward-thinking finance team at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust as a Junior Costing Assistant, as the Trust embarks on a period of positive change.
We are looking for an ambitious individual who has the ability to work within a team, who is proactive and possesses concise and confident communication skills. In addition, organisation skills, a working knowledge of computer based software packages and being highly numerate are key in this role to support the finance function in achieving the wider Trust vision and goals.
The successful candidate will be supporting the Costing Function in the production of monthly management information making use of the Patient Level Information & Costing System (PLICS). The post holder will ensure that data and information is delivered through clear, consistent, appropriate, robust and efficient systems, processes and reports. This individual is required to hold excellent accuracy skills to ensure the integrity of data is maintained in line with Trust reporting procedures.
Key Responsibilitieswill include, but are not limited to:
- Interrogate a variety of data sources and systems to extract relevant data using different software packages, presenting in a format suitable for the intended recipient.
- Be responsible for the prompt and accurate entry of transactions to the Costing System. This will involve calculation of internal recharges.
- Produce draft reports based on costing data sources for review by the Costing Team in compliance with deadlines.
- Provide support in resolving queries pertaining to Costing but arising from other sections within finance.
- Utilise and maintain database environments ensuring integrity of data, and compliance with data import procedures.
- To undertake costings as requested by Financial Management or Financial Services.

The post-holder will support the Costing function of the Finance department in providing professional advice and support in all aspects of costing and benchmarking.
The post holder will be part of a team directly involved in the maintenance of the costing system, provision of standard and ad hoc reporting and ensuring compliance with all national and local costing standards.
The post-holder will support the production of monthly management information making use of the Patient Level Information & Costing System (PLICS). The post-holder will transact changes in the costing system to reflect the use of resources in the organisation. They will prepare and validate source information to ensure accurate and timely reporting. The post holder will support and provide routine monitoring for distribution of data within the Financial Management or Financial Services departments and Trust. The post holder will also support the production of regular monitoring information on costing and productivity metrics throughout the month.
The post holder will need to communicate in a concise and confident way with other team members and other departments within the Trust, often providing information on service and patient costs. Due regard must be given to confidential information.
The post holder will be involved in maintaining and working with financial and operational colleagues to improve data supplied to support robust costing processes.
The post holder will be required to produce ad hoc data and analysis on spend as required by members of both the finance and operational team.
The post holder will need to be highly numerate and demonstrate a working knowledge of computer based software packages. They should be committed to personal development.
