The starting salary for this role is £29,844 per annum, based on working 36-hours per week. This is a 24-month fixed term/secondment opportunity.
An exciting new opportunity has been created within the Major Projects Communications Team for a Junior Communications Officer. This is an entry-level role in a well-respected public sector communications team with plenty of opportunity to develop for the right person.
About the role
The role will involve planning and delivering communications to residents to advise them on infrastructure, highways and placemaking projects within Surrey. You will work within the Major Projects Communications Team but will also work alongside the Highways Works Communications team.
You will be expected to work independently to write leaflets and letters, social media posts and website updates, with support and guidance from the team. There may be opportunities to be involved in organising public events and engagement sessions and supporting the team with creating and delivering other types of communications.
About the team
The team is responsible for engaging and communicating with residents on a wide variety of infrastructure projects including making high streets more accessible for pedestrians and cyclists, reducing speed limits in town centres and improving public realm spaces. As part of this, local residents are asked for their opinion on proposals and need to be kept up to date as plans develop and works are commenced.
The team is fully committed to the council’s policy of empowering communities and is always looking for new and innovative ways to engage with residents. For example, last summer we ran virtual reality sessions as part of a consultation to gather feedback from residents.
About you
To be considered for interview, your application will clearly evidence:
- Your ability to support both creative campaigns and sensitive communications,
- Experience of creating communications using a mix of online and offline channels,
- Your capability of supporting multiple projects simultaneously,
- A good level of written English.
This role is a two-year fixed term contract, with a view of extending. The role is based in Woodhatch Place in Reigate, but the you will be expected to regularly work at Quadrant Court in Woking.There is also the opportunity to regularly work from home.
