Newsround is the UK’s only integrated news service for children. With bulletins every day and a comprehensive online service, we deliver news to under 16 year-olds in an engaging and innovative way.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will use excellent editorial judgement to create a variety of news-related content for Newsround’s different platforms. This could include writing short and long-form stories, shooting and editing, creating guides and explainers, content for YouTube and social media and digital storytelling using a range of interactive tools.

Are you the right candidate?
  • You'll have the ability to develop fresh, new creative ideas aimed specifically at Newsround’s different platforms.
  • You will be able to shoot on location and edit packages for all of Newsround’s platforms
  • You will have experience of writing news stories for a digital platform
  • You'll be able to use a variety of storytelling tools to produce fully interactive digital content
  • You'll have an understanding of, and passion for, creating content for Newsround's young and diverse audiences across different platforms, including TV and digital
  • You will have a working knowledge of optimising your digital content for search (SEO)
  • It would be an advantage to be able to use and interpret both live and historic data using a variety of tools such as AT Internet, Telescope and Chartbeat, and applying that data to shape future commissions.
  • You must be able to deliver to tight deadlines, whether editing packages for TV and digital platforms, or writing for online.
  • This role requires a relevant DBS check to be undertaken by the BBC at the appropriate level, at the point of offer of a contract of employment.
