Job description
As a news reporter with a focus on SEO, you will use your knowledge and insight to write articles that will reach new readers through search. You will also have an understanding of what works well on social, with experience in content discovery, pitching ideas based on search trends, and writing content to engage our social audiences.
What you'll do:
- Write stories for the Sky News website and app
- React to breaking news with ideas for breakout pieces
- Produce accurate copy to tight deadlines
- Come up with ideas for evergreen content
- Use your initiative to prepare content for upcoming news events
- Write articles that will engage our social audiences
- Bring new ideas on how to reach younger readers
- Have excellent communication and people skills
What you'll bring:
- At least two years’ digital/online experience with a national news publisher
- First class news writing skills, sound news judgement and a great instinct for what does well on search
- A track record of jumping on trends early and creating relevant content
- A deep understanding of SEO, Google trends, content discovery and social media
- A keenness to learn what works by monitoring performance of your stories
- The right to work in the UK
It’s desirable if you have:
- Experience using real-time analytics tools (eg Chartbeat or similar)
- Experience in self-publishing
- Basic Photoshop skills
