Job description
Radio Bristol is proud to serve the vibrant city of Bristol and surrounding area. The biggest city in the South West, it’s a dynamic cultural hub – the home of Banksy with a thriving music scene and is a City of Sanctuary , with 92 different languages spoken.
We also serve the historic city of Bath, and coastal areas of Weston-super-Mare, Clevedon and Portishead.
We deliver award-winning coverage of local news and sport, as well as a big phone-in each day of the week, giving people a platform to discuss the issues of the day.
We are looking for a producer to work on our live radio programmes, dealing with a wide range of speech content, from hard news stories to engaging life stories.
Main ResponsibilitiesYou will work with presenters and producers of our four-hour radio programmes, helping them put the show together and be involved in live outputting of the programme in the producer’s gallery once on air. You will find and set up guests, record audio and edit it, and write scripts for the presenter to read. You will be able to take calls from listeners and help decide whether it’s appropriate to put them on air.
It involves making quick decisions in the producer’s gallery during the live show. You will be responsible for setting up interviews and contributors for a range features on the programme, writing the scripts and briefing notes for the presenter. You will be able to take ownership of parts of the programme, contribute ideas and be able to brief the presenter and producer. You will be responsible for certain technical aspects of the show, using a range of devices to get guests on air. This will involve a flexible working week, with 5 shifts per week across 7 days.
You will love the thrill of working on a live radio programme, with the ability to come up with ideas for the show. You’ll be able find the best guests and have the skills of persuasion to get them to talk. You’ll also want to think up the most creative treatment for that content.
You’ll have experience of working in a live studio environment, and awareness of the info that presenters and producers need when on air. You’ll have a flexible attitude and are up for coping with a changing running order should news break during the show.
