Our Mission
In the Payments Services Platform, our mission is to provide compliant and efficient payments capabilities for the Group and drive innovation to enable customers to move money confidently, quickly and securely. The Payments Services Platform sits within Business & Commercial Banking and plays a critical role in providing services across the whole Group.
Our team
We're looking to recruit a Java Engineer to work in our New Payments Architecture Lab.
As a Senior Java Engineer you will help drive strategy of a complex group of applications. You will also define and monitor quality standards for what and how we do things within the team. You will also help colleagues improve their own knowledge and skills by coaching and mentoring them.

Here’s how you’ll make a difference:
- Drawing on your knowledge to mentor other team members, enhancing their skills and knowledge by coaching and supporting them day to day, to achieve key outcomes and support organisational goals
- be involved in hands-on development of our applications, and supporting them in production, along with other team members and partners
- refining and defining best practice and standards for our team to work with now and into our future.
- Working with our Enterprise Architecture area, you will be shaping the strategy, and defining the technical solutions that are critical to support our customers and the bank as a whole
- Through our Chapter model, you will encourage sharing of new solutions and techniques within the chapter and with other parts of the wider payments engineering value stream.
What we'll need from you:
- A Software Engineering background with commercial experience operating as an experienced developer
- Strong Architecture and Java Engineering knowledge
- Experience in Architecture of complex systems
- Experience working on Cloud platform
- Experience developing Springboot Microservices.
- Good all-around knowledge of the software development lifecycle within a modern Agile engineering environment, familiar with Agile ceremonies & practices.
- Excellent communication & teamwork skills.
