Kelvinside Academy are currently looking for an experienced and reliable Janitor to join our team.
Purpose of Role: The Balgray Janitor shall keep the School’s buildings in clean and orderly condition performing routine maintenance / cleaning activities.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Follow correct procedures for the daily opening or closing of the school grounds. This will also include daily checks paperwork.
- Monitor the Balgray helpdesk and action points.
- Assist in securing the safety, welfare and conduct of pupils whilst in the school environment.
- Monitor building security and safety (including the operation of fire and Security systems). Act as fire warden when required.
- Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems • Requisition supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.
- Ensure the school grounds are tidy and clean removing any hazards
- Act as the on-site point of contact with regards to any external contractors.
- look after all HS protocols (paperwork) in-line with the school’s policies.
- Moving school furniture and on occasion erecting new furniture.
- Set-up of any school events requested by Facilities Manager/Deputy Rector/Rector
- Order cleaning products as and when required though the Head janitor. Knowledge of cleaning products.
- Drive the school Vehicles as and when required.
- When required help carry out duties for other departments within the school such as Inspire, PTA and the development manager.
- Any other duty or tasks as deemed reasonable by the school
- Assist in setting up and management of the letting of the sports pitches.

- Ability to work on own initiative.
- Reliable and flexible.
- Ability to work both independently and relate to people.
- Good communicative skills.
- Ability to prioritise multiple tasks.
- Ability to liaise and work effectively with school staff, pupils and parents.
