Job Role
Our client is offering an opportunity to join their well-established IT team in an employee-owned organisation with excellent career development opportunities and financial rewards. The IT Security Engineer will play an important part in designing and implementing security technologies within Microsoft and other Cloud environments, acting as a technical subject matter expert in both IT and business-related projects. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in proactively delivering cyber security protection across multiple business operating units.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum 5 years of experience in an IT security role, working with Security frameworks such as Cyber Essentials, ISO27001, or similar. You will have knowledge of security technologies such as Azure, SIEM, IDS/IPS, Nessus and Phishing Detection and Certification in CISSP, CISM or equivalent. They are looking for a professional, tenacious, persistent and results driven with an eye for detail, good written and oral skills and the ability to present complex information easily to diverse groups.
In return for your dedication, knowledge, and commitment, they are offering a competitive salary range £48,000 to £55,000 pa (dependent on experience) with these great benefits:

Hours: 37 hours a week. Monday to Thursday 8.30 am to 5pm, Friday 8.30 am to 4.30pm
Key Responsibilities
- Providing technical expertise in IT Security with and the ability to deploy and use security tools to identify and resolve issues across a wide range of systems and applications.
- Deploying and using IT security tools such as vulnerability scanners, incident and event monitoring, log analysis and network monitoring, intrusion detection and content filtering.
- Deploying, configuring and resolving security components of infrastructure and applications such as Active Directory, MS M365, MS Azure, Firewalls, Proxy Servers, etc.
- Creating scripts and other ad hoc reporting to provide the necessary information for the IT Team to perform their functions.
- Providing inputs into the IT Security Strategy and IT Security Operations including policies, procedures and reporting systems.
- Providing subject matter expertise into the design and implementation of advanced security capabilities including SIEMs, Security Operations Centre, etc.
- Providing input to Information Security Certification and Accreditation processes.
Skills and Experience
Essential
- Be of graduate calibre and likely to have a degree or equivalent in a computing or related engineering discipline.
- Able to demonstrate extensive experience in technical security roles or a system administration role supporting multiple platforms and applications.
- Able to demonstrate a high level of technical skills in the field of IT Security.
- Experience of and proficiency in relevant technical IT standards such as NIST Cyber Security Framework, HMG & NCSC policies and guidelines, Cyber Essentials Plus, etc.
- Experience and familiarity with relevant IT standards such as ITIL, ISO27001, etc.
Desirable
- Experience of working within a large public sector organisation (Council / Local Authority / NHS / University, etc.) delivering hosted services to stakeholders.
- Advanced IT Security or computing qualification, e.g. MSc Information Security.
- Experience of working in a Security Operations Centre.
