IT Manager

Cad Rail has other facilities in Calgary, Lethbridge (under Caltrax banner) and has recently been selected by the ONxpress Transportation Partners association to provide all legacy fleet maintenance services for the Metrolinx rail fleet of approximately 1000 bi-level coaches and 90 locomotives. Cad rail’s delivery team will operate and maintain Metrolinx’s rail maintenance facilities in Etobicoke and Whitby, as well as in multiple overnight along with mid-day light servicing facilities located across the Metrolinx train service area.
Summary of the role:
The IT Manager will be responsible for managing, maintaining, and overseeing all aspects of the IT infrastructure for the Metrolinx’s Legacy Fleet Maintenance operations.
This individual will collaborate with the management team, customers, suppliers, partners and involved stakeholders.
Reporting to the Head of Fleet Maintenance, will be responsible for maintaining the essential IT infrastructure, including operating systems, security tools, applications, servers, email systems, laptops, desktops, software and hardware.
Core Accountabilities:
· Confirm that all HSE policies, processes and procedures are being complied
· Able to develop short- and long-term strategies for IT linking them to the needs of the business
· Manage the IT team and ensure performance meets the expectations of the business. Coach and mentor IT staff as required
· Responsible for IT projects and solutions within the overall business strategy. Able to forecast IT costs, prepare annual budget and work within the approve budget
· Handle business critical IT tasks and systems
· Research and evaluate emerging technologies, hardware, and software
· Conducting routine evaluations of network and data security
· Perform routine system audits
· Analyze processes, technologies, and vendors for the purpose of continuous improvement
· Provide necessary training in the use of software and hardware
· Troubleshoot complex issues and ensure superior technical support to the business
· Ensure there is a recovery, back up and disaster plan in place
· Ability to develop KPI’s and present data
· Prepare senior management relating any potential complications
· Work with the team to prepare and create recurrent reports that are requested by operations or higher
· Comply with the company’s applicable policies and procedures as well as human resources’ guidelines
Qualifications:
· Ability to build strong rapport with the team and unionized maintenance personnel
· 7 to10 years experience in IT Management and/or a related field. Rail locomotive and passenger coach experience and knowledge is an asset
· Experience implementing, configuring, and testing IT solutions
· Background of accomplishing business strategies
· Diploma or degree relating to the field of expertise such as Information Technology or Computer Science
Nice to have:
· Experience working in an unionized environment
· Familiarity with other industries such as Aerospace
· Experience working in the rail industry with a comprehensive knowledge of rail equipment
