Position Details:
Position: International HR Advisor – permanent, full time
Salary: £42-45k (depending on experience)
Location: Hybrid role, with 2 days per week in our Regent’s Park office
Overview of the Role
The International HR Advisor is responsible for the delivery of effective and professional HR advice and guidance to conservation country office teams, supporting line managers across all aspects of the employee lifecycle – from recruitment to employee exit – for ZSL colleagues working internationally. The role play will support our overseas HR Managers in the field, ZSL Country Directors and lead researchers working overseas.
As a trusted and credible member of the HR team, the post-holder will ensure that best practice is applied for all our country contexts, ensuring consistency in HR service standards, advice and casework, and duty of care for staff employed overseas supporting ZSL funded programmes and partnerships across our international remit. Working alongside the Head of People Partnering and the wider HR team, you will also input into the development and implementation of global HR projects and initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Guide and coach managers across UK and international teams to lead HR processes and procedures, implement people policies, and comply with local employment law on key procedures such as capability, misconduct, grievance and safeguarding
- Provide and facilitate two-way support, knowledge-sharing, and counsel for ZSL HR Managers in the field
- Support country teams with HR training and development on wellbeing, safeguarding, EDI, HR policy and management development
- Collaborate with the Senior HR Business Partner on diagnosing, advising and designing people interventions to meet the needs of our overseas employee experience
- Review, draft, and implement people policies suitable for a global organisation on subjects such as global mobility, international reward, wellbeing, and diversity and inclusion.

The ideal candidate will:
- Have previous experience working in an HR generalist role supporting a complex organisation working internationally, preferably for an INGO in the non-profit global conservation or humanitarian/development sectors
- Have proven experience of reviewing, drafting and implementing HR policies and procedures for an international context, for example but not limited to, global mobility, safe recruitment, safeguarding/PSEA, or national staff employee guidance
- Be able to effectively manage and advise on employee relations issues, including performance management, bullying and harassment, disciplinary, and grievance procedures
- Hold awareness of good HR practice in relation to a range of diversity issues including some understanding around race, cultural sensitivity, power & privilege and a commitment to ZSL’s values and commitment to inclusion and safeguarding
- A DBS is required for this position due to the nature of supporting our safeguarding agenda overseas
