This role is responsible for delivering the UKD Internal Communications and People Engagement strategy to ensure coherent and consistent messaging and activity, reinforcing the sector’s focus on continuous improvement of the employee experience, supporting our cultural development with our values and behaviours at the heart.

Reporting to the People Director and working closely with the Chief Executive and a range of senior stakeholders to inform and shape the internal communications and people engagement approach. Through specialist knowledge and experience, this role will support the UK Defence Sector in the creation of meaningful employee experiences driving belonging, inclusion, engagement, wellbeing and retention.

This individual is accountable for the delivery of employee communications across a variety of channels and ensuring full integration and coherence with the broader UK Defence marketing and communications function and alignment with the QinetiQ Group Strategy. Strong relationships and interfaces with the UK Defence Marketing & Communications team along with the QinetiQ Group Communications Team are essential to shape, embed and champion QinetiQ’s group-wide approach.

Key Accountabilities

the design of an Internal Communications and People Engagement strategy for the sector which inspires and engages employees

Provide specialist insight and knowledge to the People Director and broader business stakeholders on internal communications and people engagement best practice and latest trends
Manage Sector internal communications channels, messaging and content for key information and announcements
Plan, manage & deliver key events, both virtually and in-person. This includes, but is not limited to, QTalks, Employee Roadshows, Leadership Conferences and other people-focused forums and interventions
Collaborate with the sector leadership team to create engaging and creative content for a wide variety of internal communication channels
Ensure all content, messaging and collateral aligns to the QinetiQ narrative and represents the brand in the most effective way to connect our people to our purpose, vision and values
Work in partnership with the People Director and the broader People Function to support the design of our Sector people and engagement strategy

Measure and analyse the impact and effectiveness of all communications activities to inform future plans and engagement

Deliver QinetiQ Group internal communication campaigns and activities within the Sector to create awareness and understanding
Partner with the sector and Group Marketing and Communications teams to leverage opportunities to promote and enhance our employer reputation and brand both internally and externally
Keep up-to-date with the latest trends and best practice in employee communications to continuously improve engagement

Key Capabilities/Knowledge

Ability to effectively manage, and execute multiple projects; with high levels of accuracy and attention to detail
A passion for communications and people engagement, with a keen interest in new technologies, platforms and channels
Excellent communicator and creative thinker, with an ability to use both data and intuition to inform decisions
Able to build relationships and influence a wide range of stakeholders
Writes in a clear and concise manner, using appropriate grammar, style and language to create meaningful content
Willing to learn and develop in complex stakeholder environments with a strong desire to understand how the business works and generates revenue
Thrives in environments where there is a high need for collaboration and team work and where working at pace is a key requirement

Experience & Qualifications

Depth of experience in communications, particularly within employee communications

Experience of successful delivery in multi- stakeholder environments, with good relationship management skills

Experience of editing and updating intranet/web content and analysing web analytics

Experience in delivering events both virtually and in-person

Strong commercial focus

Experience of working with senior leaders
