Job description
Internal Auditor
At Tower Hamlets we pride ourselves in offering the best of London in one borough. The list is long but includes Brick Lane, Victoria Park, Canary Wharf, Columbia Road market, Tower of London, the V&A Museum of Childhood and Whitechapel Art Gallery. We have one of the most multi-cultural and fastest growing populations in the country – set to rise to 341,000 by 2023. We are seeking people with ambition, creativity and commitment to ensure our growth and investment provides benefits for everyone and create opportunities to transform the lives of local residents.
Against this background, a professional, independent and objective internal audit service is vital for promoting good governance, risk management and internal control across the Council. Internal Audit has a key role in Tower Hamlets in helping accomplish the Council’s priorities and objectives by bringing a systematic and disciplined approach to evaluating and improving the effectiveness of internal control, risk management and governance processes. An exciting opportunity has arisen within our high-profile Internal Audit service for a qualified, and experienced Internal Auditor. The successful candidate will manage and deliver a programme of risk-based and consultancy audits across a whole range of services and functions within the Council and its partners. You should ideally be a qualified accountancy or audit professional and demonstrate substantial experience in conducting and reporting of risk based internal audits within a public sector organisation. In return, we will provide a positive and supportive environment with opportunities to advance your career.
Tower Hamlets vision for our borough is that: people are aspirational, independent and have equal access to opportunities; we are a borough that our residents are proud of and love to live in; and we are a dynamic, outcomes-based council using digital innovation and partnership working to respond to the changing needs of our borough. We want people who aspire to our TOWER values: Together; Open; Willing; Excellent; Respect.
Tower Hamlets has a zero-tolerance approach to, and works to eradicate, all forms of discrimination on the basis of race, sex, disability, age, religion or belief, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, marital status, status as a civil partner, gender, gender identity, gender expression, pregnancy and maternity and looks to employ a diverse workforce representative of those groups. We recognise that people can also be disadvantaged by their social and economic circumstances, so we will work to eliminate discrimination and disadvantage caused by social class.
We welcome applicants interested in flexible working arrangements and also applicants who live in the borough
