What Are We Looking For?

We are currently seeking vibrant music tutors to use their experience and professional expertise to change the lives of children through music. Appointments will be made with a minimum number of hours, but we encourage and support all new teachers to expand and grow this work.

Why Join Hertfordshire Music Service?

  • We improve the lives and life chances of children and young people in Hertfordshire and believe every child has a musical voice that deserves to be nurtured.
  • We are a values driven organisation at the forefront of innovative inclusive music tuition development and receive valuable support from Hertfordshire County Council, other funders and stakeholders.
  • We support the professional development of teachers from the start with a paid induction process that allows new teachers to develop their skills straight away.
  • We encourage our staff to be proactive and enable them to grow their own work through paid projects like our ‘Get Playing’ project.
  • There are numerous opportunities to explore a variety of different aspects to music education through the wide range of musical provision we deliver.

What Is Expected From Me?

The role can involve individual, shared, and small group teaching, whole class teaching and ensemble direction. Work can take place during the school day, evenings, and Saturday mornings with the option of additional work on school holiday courses. This role may involve travel between agreed locations and therefore having your own vehicle is preferred, but not essential.

Our new teachers must be able to commit to deliver 33 teaching weeks over the academic year. Working hours will be agreed together with HMS. Your pay will be determined on the HMS pay scale (to be discussed on appointment). Teachers can progress higher up the pay scale through successful performance management.

If you would like to be part of the team, please contact Music HR for a full job description and application form at [email protected].
