Position Title: Swim Instructor
Hours: 30 hours per week
Salary: $22.93 per hour
Start Date: July 3, 2023
Reports To: Supervisor, Aquatics
This job is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs Grant.

Situation:

One of the Lower Mainland’s leading charities, the YMCA of Greater Vancouver provides services in health, fitness & aquatics, child care, camping, employment & community services to over 120,000 participants annually.
Nature & Scope:
Major Responsibilities:
- Teach swimming lessons in a positive and professional manner
- Develop and lead lesson plans for various programs and administer progressive evaluations for participants
- Build meaningful relationships through positive daily interaction with YMCA members, visitors, and colleagues
- Perform routine pool maintenance, as required
- Perform general administrative duties and record keeping responsibilities
- Ensure the safety of all members, participants, staff, and property, by following YMCA standards/policies/procedures and ensuring they are maintained among all members and staff
- Promote philanthropy through the annual fundraiser campaign
- Strong work ethic and able to remain flexible
- Assist with training new staff/volunteers in procedures and practices
Requirements:
- Current Standard First Aid certificate (valid within 2 years)
- CPR level C and & AED certificate (valid within 1 year)
- National Lifeguard - Pool Option
- AMOA
- Water Safety Instructor certification or equivalent
- Experience as a Lifeguard or Swimming Instructor - preferred
- YMCA Aquatic Fitness Certificate, or equivalent – preferred
- Access to reliable transportation or a vehicle
- Advanced leadership courses are an asset
- Demonstrated high level of customer service skills
- Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six (6) months preceding your start date
- 3 professional references
- The YMCA has implemented a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy requiring all staff and volunteers to be vaccinated as per the timelines set out by the province.
Canada Summer Jobs Criteria
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment.
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
