Main Purpose
The 48th Civil Engineering Flight at RAF Lakenheath are looking for a Facilities Condition Inspector to provide effective inspection of all types of Water and Waste Water systems (Plumbing) at RAF Lakenheath and RAF Feltwell. This will include review and inputs on maintenance activities, work requests and project planning.
As a Facilities Condition Inspector, you will perform inspections on a variety of facilities and systems, involving difficult and complex operations and maintenance activities. You will maintain and update a digital database system (SMS) and ensure accurate data quality is maintained.
You will accurately interpret plans and specifications to ensure correct procedures are followed while routinely providing effective technical assistance to ensure changes are properly incorporated into plans and specifications.
It will also be your responsibility, as a Facilities Condition Inspector to conduct thorough pre-final inspections of work for acceptance and compliance while accurately inputting and retrieving information from our civil engineering computer systems. You will comply with health, safety and environmental rules and procedures while performing work in a manner that enhances the safety of the work environment.
Knowledge and Experience Required - Applicants must demonstrate the following:
Knowledge of Asset management principles.
Knowledge of construction inspection practices and procedures involved in the inspection of building materials, workmanship, utilities, and the installation of systems; and the practical methods and techniques of engineering principles relating to complex construction practices and procedures is required.
Highly desired that the incumbent holds HND/HNC/BTEC, City and Guilds, NVQ, or equivalent qualifications in an appropriate discipline, together with a minimum of three year’s work experience in the trade.
Knowledge of structural aspects of major construction projects is required.
Knowledge of inspection and safety practices and procedures in the construction industry is required.
Knowledge of engineering and architectural plans and specifications to read and interpret construction requirements is required.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing is required.

- Hours of work: Start & end times may be modified due to mission needs and in accordance with organization’s flexible working policies. 1
- Will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules, and regulations.
- Must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
- May be assigned other duties that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the employee.
- May be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training. Position may be coded as mission essential.
- A 6–12-month probationary period will be required.
- Overtime may be required.
- May be required to travel overnight to US or other countries in the performance of official duties or attend necessary train.
- Hours of work will be As Rostered (Typically 0730-1600)
- Work may require travel away from the normal duty station.
- Work will require the employee to drive a motor vehicle. A category B driving licence is required, please provide a copy with your application.
- The position requires the knowledge of numerous regulations and codes of work. From time to time, there are various courses that must be attended to keep up to date with new practices, materials and safety regulation.
- May be required to wear personal protective equipment when performing on-site inspections.
- May be required to perform other minor duties not described above, outside normal scope of work but within the grade requirements.
- Must be able to satisfactorily complete/obtain an applicable UK security clearance.
- Position may be coded as mission essential.
