The City of Everett is accepting applications on an open/competitive basis for the Civil Service examination process for ELECTRICAL INSPECTOR.
The work involves inspections of a variety of electrical installations to determine whether plans, workmanship, and materials conform with requirements set forth in state, municipal and national codes. In addition, inspection of relevant work pertaining to the Washington State Energy Code and the accessibility requirements of the Washington State Building Code is performed. Although new and difficult situations may be referred to a supervisor, employees usually work independently in the field and are responsible for independent decisions requiring technical judgment. The work is normally subject only to general supervision, but may be reviewed by a supervisor in cases involving complicated enforcement cases. The work is under the supervision of the Building Official.

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK
Inspect residential, commercial and industrial electrical installations and equipment in new and existing buildings for compliance with provisions of the state, municipal and national electrical codes, state energy code and accessibility requirements of the state building code; issue notices to persons involved where electrical installations are in non-compliance; provide information on correct methods of installation.
Check plans and specifications for electrical projects to see that work complies with ordinances and regulations; provide information on required corrections if necessary.
Maintain records of inspections performed covering conditions found, action taken and requirements for further actions, as well as names of owners, contractors and addresses of inspection sites.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Requires four (4) years journey-level experience as an electrician including experience in various types of construction from residential through commercial and industrial AND a General Class Journeyman Electrician License, “ELO1” AND experience in various phases of electrical work including new installation, repair, maintenance, remodeling and design.
Inspection experience is highly desirable.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS OR CERTIFICATIONS
Possession of, a valid, unrestricted (corrective lenses allowed) driver license at the date of hire; and the ability to obtain and maintain a valid, unrestricted Washington State Driver License within 30 days of hire.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS
Ability and willingness to use ladders, crawl into tight and awkward spaces, and work in prevailing weather conditions.
Respond to callouts, and may work weekends and holidays.

EXAMINATION STEPS
There will be a pre-screening of all applications.
Responses to the supplemental questionnaire will be individually reviewed and evaluated (weighted 30%).
Top-scoring applicants will be called to an oral panel interview (weighted 70%).
All vacancies in this job class will be filled from the ranked Civil Service register established from the examination process for 12 months.
IMPORTANT NOTES
A passing grade of 70.00 or higher is required on all parts of the screening process for placement on the ranked Civil Service eligible register.
The examination process is designed to sample and measure the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Applicants claiming veterans’ preference points in accordance with RCW 41.04.010 as amended and meeting eligibility criteria must submit form DD214 or other official military separation documentation that clearly indicates an honorable discharge from military service on or before the date filing closes.
Extensive background checks will be conducted.
New hires begin employment at the first step of the salary range.
