INFRASTRUCTURE, PROJECTS & ENERGY LAWYER - 3YRSPQE+

Location – Scotland

A BRILLIANT OPPORTUNITY… INTRODUCING ADDLESHAW GODDARD

Addleshaw Goddard is a premium, international business law firm. Our lawyers help many of the world's best known brands – including 45 FTSE100 companies – to defend their rights, protect their interests and to make the most of business opportunities. We operate from 13 offices in Europe, Asia and the Middle East, and focus heavily on industry sectors such as retail & consumer, transport, real estate and financial services. In recent years we were recognised by the FT as one of the top 5 most innovative law firms in Europe.

Our core values include delivering MORE IMAGINATION and MORE IMPACT to our client relationships and projects. We are committed to inclusivity and sustainability, and have a modern and approachable culture.

THE GROUP

Addleshaw Goddard's infrastructure projects and energy practice is known for its quality and breadth of expertise.

As one of most established multi-disciplinary teams of any law firm, we give clients the confidence they need to succeed.

Our first-class team provides innovative, timely and commercial advice from inception all the way through the life time of our clients' projects in markets as diverse as waste, large scale outsourcing, renewable energy, transport and healthcare, in the UK and all over the world.

We act for a range of developers, sponsors, and procuring authorities, and we have advised funders, as well as public and private sector clients, on some of the most challenging assignments in the market in recent years, including several pathfinder projects such as Gas to the West, a pipeline bringing gas from Northern Ireland to the Irish Republic, and the Femern tunnel linking Denmark and Germany.

As this shows, we have a fantastic variety of work. It's not just big ticket, high pressure transactions though – we also do a whole range of smaller matters, providing a great arena for mid-level associates to gain experience in a supportive environment. There is an opportunity to specialise, or gain experience in, many different areas.

Current and recent matter include advising:
Over 200 renewable energy projects in the last decade (wind, solar, biomass, Anaerobic digestion) for clients such as SSE, Peel, John Laing, Network Rail
National Grid on various matters including interconnectors, gas to grid projects and data centres
Aberdeen City Council, procurement of a Strategic Joint Venture Partner to deliver a Hydrogen Hub for the City
Maltese Government; £200 million DBO contract for an EFW Facility for the Island
We are one of only 3 core panel members to Scottish & Southern Energy
Advising Trafford Council on the UA92 project, the development of a new university in conjunction with Gary Neville, Microsoft, Lancaster University and Bruntwood
Acting on a range of NHS estates management including PFI disputes, variations, construction and estates rationalisation and development, including the termination of the Royal Liverpool PFI hospital (as seen on TV!)
Advising the Danish Ministry for Transport on a 5bn Euro project to build a tunnel between Denmark and Germany
One of 4 Tier 1 advisors to the Department of Transport, providing advice on some of the highest profile projects including the roll out of the National Rail Contracts and advice on the structure of the new Passenger Service Contracts

WHAT ARE THE OPPORTUNITIES FOR ME?

We are recruiting in Scotland to join our growing team.

You do not need to have worked in a Projects team before. We have alumni from banking, construction, corporate, real estate and other areas – as well as engineering and museum curation (as we are a diverse team with some members enjoying second careers). In essence we advise on commercial contracts relating to energy, infrastructure, transport and many types of public/private sector transactions – a great grounding for mid-level lawyers on these hugely relevant and dynamic topics.

We can offer unparalleled quality and breadth of work, and crucially, the necessary training and support to enable you to develop. We are prioritising growth from the bottom up. That means plenty of opportunities for career progression. We also have demand from our clients for secondees (we have recently seen team members seconded to SSE, Engie, National Grid, DfT, Hitachi Rail, and Network Rail), so if you are interested in in-house opportunities then you won't be disappointed.

If you are looking for innovative, fast paced, exciting work, where every day is different, this role is for you. If you thrive when taking on responsibility, and are ambitious, seeking a place to work where career prospects are excellent at all levels, team members are rewarded and where talent is valued, then AG is the place for you.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

The ideal candidate will have:
At least 3yrsPQE (but we are also keen to hear from more experienced candidates)
The ability to actively support and manage complex transactions, liaising and coordinating with fee earners from other relevant disciplines as needed
The ability to contribute to the general upkeep of the group (whether that be to training, precedents, or know-how generally)
Strong commercial awareness – but most importantly a willingness to learn and a genuine interest in infrastructure, energy and transport
A proven record of a high standard of client care for existing clients at the highest level.
The enthusiasm to market to clients and ability to self-motivate
Displays a knowledge of key areas of the law by providing clear, precise, practical advice

AG is an equal opportunity employer and we do not discriminate on the basis of a person's gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation or any other protected characteristic. We are committed to having a diverse team and actively encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds and communities, particularly those from underrepresented demographics. We want our recruitment practices to be as inclusive as possible, so please let us know if you need us to make any reasonable adjustments during the application or inter
