We care for more than 80 million objects spanning billions of years and welcome more than five million visitors annually and 16 million visits to our website.

Today the Museum is more relevant and influential than ever. By attracting people from a range of backgrounds to work for us, we can continue to look at the world with fresh eyes and find new ways of doing things.

We employ 900 staff in a variety of roles, all united by our vision of a future where people and planet thrive. We need everyone to have the passion and drive to help us with our mission to create advocates for our planet and inspire millions to care about the natural world.

Diversity and inclusion matter to us.

Our vision is of a future where both people and the planet thrive. Diversity is one of our core values and we strive to build a workplace where everyone feels a sense of belonging. All new staff who join us learn about the importance of diversity and inclusion to the Museum and how to contribute to creating an inclusive environment.

We know we have more to do, but we are committed to ensuring that everyone who works at the Museum feels they can thrive and feel valued and respected.

About the role

Our Technology Solutions department are looking for an enthusiastic information security analyst to join the team.

As a part of the Information Security team, you will take a significant role in securing the Museum’s data and services, helping the Museum to achieve its goals in delivering cutting edge science and engagement, to help create a future where people and planet thrive.

You will work with technical and non-technical staff across the Museum to increase security awareness, improve working processes and spread best practice, acting as a point of escalation for information security incidents as well as working with external specialists during penetration testing, or to ensure security consideration is delivered in key service projects.

You will manage and utilise a range of platforms to help prevent, detect and remediate threats, scan for vulnerabilities, test and manage compliance and identify improvements. This is a great opportunity to increase your exposure to a wide range of information security platforms - both commercial and open source tools including intrusion prevention, anti-malware, email protection, cloud native security tools and others.

As well as being an exciting time to join a growing Information Security team, this position offers the opportunity to make a difference, with support to learn and master new technologies available from the wider Technology Solutions team of network, infrastructure and platform specialists, analysts and support staff, and opportunity to apply your technical skills to support the Museum strategy and our mission to create advocates for the planet.

As a part of the wider team, you will be required to undertake occasional weekend working, as a part of the broader Technology Solutions out-of-hours critical service support. This will normally amount to around 6 days per annum.

About you

You will be an enthusiastic information security professional, and hold an interest in the cyber security field, with a demonstrable understanding of the global threat climate.

You will be capable of engaging at any level, whether offering practical advice to colleagues on remediation, or providing input into reports or intranet notices to raise cross Museum awareness.

You will have some development skills and an interest in automation will be an advantage. The environment includes alert flows integrated using tools including Microsoft Flow/PowerApps, Powershell and Python.

Your experience across a range of networking, Windows, Linux, Cloud and related services will be a benefit. Even more important is your ability to learn quickly and adapt, coupled with the drive to further develop your skills.

Thriving at the Museum: the way we work
We are proud to work at the Museum and have identified the qualities we all need to embody to reach our shared ambition. This sits alongside the Museum’s values and forms the framework for the way we work.
