The University of York Library is seeking an exceptional candidate to join our Content & Open Research and Customer Services teams. The Content & Open Research team is responsible for the acquisition and ongoing management of information resources and library collections, and for supporting researchers to make their research outputs as visible andopenly available as possible.
The Customer Services team is responsible for the daily operational delivery of the Library’s core frontline services, and our Help Desk offers support in person and virtually for library and IT queries. The Library’s core values of customer focus, collaboration and continuous improvement are central to our supportive and empowering working culture, and we take great pride in the high quality services we deliver to our user communities.
Role
We have 1 full time Information Assistant role split between Content & Open Research and Customer Services available.
As Information Assistants, you will participate in the identification and acquisition of resources, as well as the ongoing management of information resources and library collections. You will have the opportunity to provide an excellent service to our users and have a positive impact on their journey as well as supporting researchers to make their research outputs as visible and openly available as possible.
The key responsibilities include:
- Discovering, selecting, acquiring and providing access to library resources needed for teaching, learning and research;
- Providing first-line Library and IT help, advice and problem solving through all communication channels,including in person, phone and online;
- Assisting with projects and the development of services to support customer needs.
Skills, Experience & Qualification needed
- We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and a strong customer service ethos, combined with the ability to troubleshoot problems and use your initiative.
- You will have the ability to work effectively with colleagues in a variety of contexts. You will be able to organise your own work and coordinate with others to achieve tasks allocated either to you or your team, to the required deadlines or service delivery standards.
- You will be able to use and learn a range of systems, software and equipment (for example library systems, IT packages, digitisation equipment) to carry out administrative processes. Attention to detail and efficiency is essential.
- You will have a good standard of education to GCSE/NVQ1 level (or equivalent) or relevant experience. Experience of working in an archive, library or museum service is desirable but not essential.
- You will be flexible, adaptable and convey a positive attitude.
