The Performance and Information team provide a high quality analytics service for clinicians and managers to support decision making.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Princpal Information Analyst (BI Developer) to lead the Trust Informatics team.

We are looking for a driven individual with a passion for using data and visualisations to influence and provide insights to help improve health outcomes of people experiencing mental health problems. The Performance and Information team has been recognised by NHSI as a national leader in developing high quality performance reports.

The successful applicant will manage and help develop a high performing team of information analysts responsible for developing dashboards that provide insight to managers, clinicians and external stakeholders. The post holder will ensure the delivery of all key Trust quality and performance reports and statutory datasets including the Mental Health Services Data Set.

To be considered for this role, you must be educated to degree level, or have equivalent experience. You should have significant experience of using Microsoft SQL Server for data warehouse development, as well as providing technical support to team members.

Experience of dashboard creation to enable NHS organisations to make better decisions (EG Tableau, Power BI) is also crucial for this role.

The post holder will need to:

  • To lead the informatics team in prioritisation of work.
  • To provide support and supervision to the informatics team
  • To act as a subject matter expert on Trust reporting, analytics and data
  • To be responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of reporting both internally and for external submissions.

About our locations:
Tolworth Hospital, Surbiton

To create the very best environment to care for our patients, this site’s layout will be transformed in 2025 to add a number of wards to the existing three. Tolworth has a canteen and is near shops, the A3, Tolworth station, and is a bus ride from Surbiton station, with fast connections to Clapham Junction and London Waterloo.

You will also be expected to attend the Trust’s more central site (Springfield Hospital) on occasion in addition to occasional travel to other Trust sites.
1. Provide support as a ‘subject matter expert’ in the determination of Trust data and business information system requirements; offering detailed advice on data collection, management and reporting strategies. This will involve working collaboratively with stakeholders to provide solutions and support for interpreting and resolving highly complex data set reporting requirements, often without precedent, or with conflicting options.

1. Provide authoritative expert information, guidance, and advice on all matters pertaining to the design, development, implementation, and support of the trust data warehouse.

1. Ensure the development and delivery of integrated performance dashboards (using data from multiple Trust systems) to support effective performance management and decision making for all staff across the Trust.

1. Ensure the delivery of all key Trust performance reports to both external and internal recipients. The reports will include:

1. 1. Trust Board Performance Dashboard
2. Commisisoner reports
3. Mental Health Services Dataset
4. Reports for individual clinicians and managers
5. Other statutory returns

5. Supervise the Information Management team, provide mentoring, staff development to ensure all resources are deployed to maximise efficiency and quality of delivery

6. Identify data quality issues and manage strategies to resolve them.

7. Be familiar and expert in all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle

8. Liaise and work closely with the IT Modernisation team to maintain, develop and enhance infrastructure supporting BI.

9. Update and maintain the detailed functional and technical system specifications of data warehouse and BI platform.

10. Keep up to date on industry best practice, frameworks, methods and tools relating to the design, development, implementation and support of data warehouses, and data management.

11. Liaise with colleagues to deliver the specified reporting requirements within the BI environment. Manage the impact assessment and delivery of approved change requests through the appropriate governance processes.
