Job description
- To provide technical and metallurgical assistance/support to the Development and Process Metallurgist/Engineers to monitor the site processes and solve technical problems, the resolution of which will generally result in a positive financial impact to the company’s performance. This might include participating in projects typically related to introducing new and/or improving existing products/processes, reducing rejections or improving customer satisfaction.
The successful applicants will be involved in typically 2 long-term (6 month) and a number of short-term (1 to 2 months) projects. These may be part of an internal project on a manufacturing issue or may involve the generation of data for a customer, or be required as part of internal knowledge on material behaviour. All work will be written up in company reports and used to further the company’s knowledge on aluminium alloys.
- Participate in and occasionally lead appropriate technical product and process development projects.
- Provide technical input to solve metallurgical and/or process problems and where appropriate document the learning by utilising tools such as AIN’s or the K map.
- Under the direction of more senior members of the department, provide support to assist others to complete their technical projects.
- Gain a basic understanding of Alcoa’s ABS (Alcoa Business System) principles and techniques, and subsequently use them to continuously improve both Kitts Green’s Process and Product development capabilities.
- Under the direction of more senior members of the department, provide support to the Sales department by investigating and reporting upon customer quality complaints. This may involve liaising directly with customers and visiting their sites.
- Regularly monitor specific Kitts Green Processes/Product properties using Process Management and other statistical techniques, highlighting/investigating any improving or deteriorating trends
- Current undergraduate student in a materials based subject.
- Ability to communicate to a wide range of people.
- Basic computer skills including all Microsoft applications.
- High levels of attention to detail.
- Able to work unsupervised (after training) and as part of a small team.
- The ability to work in a pressurised, ever changing environment.
- Experience of report writing and delivering presentations.
- Awareness of health and safety at a place of work.
