Job description
In-House Legal Counsel (Part Time)
First dedicated legal hire at a fast growing LegalTech scale-up
Description
We’re on a mission to change the way the world contracts and we’re looking for highly motivated and ambitious individuals to join the team!
Avvoka (founded in 2016) is a market-leading document automation, negotiation and analytics tech platform used by law firms, in-house legal and business teams.
We are a dynamic team with offices in London, Prague and Singapore. Our international customer base includes law firms and corporates such as Allen & Overy, HSBC, McDonald’s and Warner Bros Discovery.
At Avvoka, expect an inclusive environment where each team member is encouraged to ask questions, contribute creatively, and work smarter, not harder.
What we’re looking for
As a rapidly-growing software business, we’re looking for our first legal hire to join us (initially on a part-time basis) to help us navigate and succeed during contract negotiations, stay on top of the evolving regulatory framework and help us with internal company affairs.
This is a new and hugely exciting opportunity to join a company that is scaling rapidly during 2023. The chosen candidate will report directly to the company's managing directors.
Requirements
- You have at least 1 years' PQE experience in private practice or in-house
- You have a strong background negotiating commercial contracts. Ideally, the candidate will be familiar with SaaS agreements (bonus points for enterprise SaaS experience!)
- You're a self-starter, ready to build out a new (legal) function at a fast-growing business specialising in software for improving lawyers’ contract drafting process. You'll be the first dedicated legal hire (reporting to the directors)
What the job involves
- Negotiating SaaS agreements and other ancillary documentation (such as order forms and statements of work)
- Ensuring our commercial terms and policies remain compliant and robust by keeping up to date with the latest legal, insurance, security, and regulatory developments in our space, as well as adjustments to our commercial model and product offering
- Advising on our compliance with EU and UK GDPR
- Working directly with the directors, growth, customer success and security teams to optimise our internal legal operations and compliance processes
- Advising on internal company documents (minutes, resolutions, employment contracts, and, if applicable, funding documentation)
- Reviewing customer provided SaaS agreements and determining any required amendments during formal tender processes (in particular those changes necessitated due to our use by customers as the system of record for documenting their legal transactions)
- Responding to ad hoc queries from customer success and accounts teams regarding key licence compliance, contract deliverables, milestones, and payment terms
- Assisting with maintaining appropriate intellectual property protections and handling queries related to these
- Passing on knowledge about legal industry norms with our customer success and growth teams to help them build rapport and understanding with our legal customers
- Creating contract templates (with guidance notes) for internal use and for incorporation into our automated contract product offering
- Helping our customer success team to interpret client’s templates and instructions so that they can process these accurately for use within our software
What we’re offering
- Competitive base salary (scaled for the part time nature of the role) that's matched to the level of experience of the applicant
- Private healthcare
- 25 days holiday + bank holidays
- Flexible working - whilst we are primarily based in London, we’re flexible when it comes to remote working
- Company laptop/WFH allowance
- Access to central London office space as well as any WeWork globally (that’s access to cool events and free drinks in over 750 locations!)
- A genuinely supportive and encouraging environment - there are no egos here
- Great social schedule of team lunches/events/drinks
- Pension, cycle to work scheme
Application Deadline
- Rolling
How to apply
Please apply using the form below. It is mandatory to provide both a CV and a covering letter. In the covering letter box, you must include a short paragraph setting out your motivations for applying to Avvoka and why you think that you would be a good fit for the company.
Notes
- Please ensure that you disclose any relevant mitigating circumstances with your application so that this can be taken into consideration in the context of your application
- Please do still apply even if you don’t satisfy each and every requirement. You might have something great to offer which we haven’t considered!
