Job Title: IED, Front Office Electronic Trading Risk Manager, Associate

Electronic Trading Risk Management (ETRM) is a front-office team within Morgan Stanley’s Institutional Equity Division (IED) responsible for managing the risks associated with electronic trading of equities and listed derivatives in EMEA.
ETRM partners closely with a diverse set of senior stakeholders including Traders, Sales Traders, Product Management, MSET Client Coverage and relevant functional areas in order to ensure electronic trading risks are appropriately managed. ETRM are at the center of daily trading activity and interact with all aspects of the trading floor.
ETRM is a cross-functional and highly technical/analytical team, uniquely positioned to identify, understand, solve, and monitor a variety of risks related to electronic and algorithmic trading.
This role requires technical and analytical skills, the ability to communicate and partner effectively with senior business stakeholders and a strong understanding of trading and market structure.

What will you be doing?
- Partnering with senior business stakeholders to ensure electronic trading business strategy is implemented in a risk-controlled manner
- Implementing and monitoring innovative electronic trading control solutions (including fat-finger and runaway algo prevention) across the suite of EMEA IED businesses
- Advising and guiding implementation of new automated trading strategies and electronic trading related initiatives in a risk-controlled manner
- Working closely with Technology, providing risk oversight of IED’s electronic-trading Technology Change Management, providing subject matter expertise, direction and facilitating testing in order to mitigate technology change risk
- Responsibility for monitoring and updating the Global Limit Manager (GLM) pre-trade control system used to monitor and control order flow on a real-time basis
- Providing subject matter expertise in support of e-trading related regulatory and exchange enquiries
- Provide e-trading subject matter expertise to manage and control outage scenarios in a time pressured environment
- Representing EMEA ETRM in key business forums
What we’re looking for:
- A background in electronic trading, ideally in a front office risk management role or similar
- A technical and analytical approach to understand the complex trading technology infrastructure
- Ability to react and respond appropriately to questions and requests in a time pressured environment
- Solution driven approach to identifying and resolving issues
- Ability to learn quickly and teach others on the workings of our trading systems and controls
Skills that will help you in the role:
- An understanding of and interest in electronic trading and the broader equity business
- Ability to interact and build relationships with business stakeholders and across functional teams
- Ability to recognize and escalate conflicting priorities/expectations across multiple stakeholders
- A self-starter who can use their initiative to investigate issues and make risk-based judgements
- Knowledge and experience of equity products; and a good understanding of the front-office processes is also preferred, such as: Equity trading systems and controls; equity market infrastructure; Electronic Trading governance and electronic trading regulation.
