We are recruiting on behalf of Bourne Education Trust where you will be based at schools in the following locations: Staines upon Thames and/or Addlestone and gain valuable experience as a Level 3 Information Communications Technician, following the Support Technician pathway. We pride ourselves on the support we give our apprentices, you won’t be left on your own to figure things out, we will support you throughout your apprenticeship journey together with your employer!
About the Trust:
The Bourne Education Trust (BET) is a highly successful Multi Academy Trust with 25 schools currently (including 5 associate schools), across primary, secondary, special and alternative provision. Of the 25 schools, 13 are primaries, 9 are secondaries, 1 is a special school and 2 are alternative provision. BET employs 1,200 staff and has over 12,000 learners in its schools. The Trust is set to expand rapidly in the near future. As a result, we are expanding our IT support team.
Good IT provision is central to effective teaching and learning and to the efficient running of the trust, and is given a high priority. Investment by the trust in its own data centre, a high degree of virtualisation, and with data security a major focus, schools benefit from a well-designed, fast and reliable IT infrastructure, and are supported both locally and centrally by a skilled and dedicated IT support team.
We are looking for someone with a real interest in technology, who wants an exciting and challenging role supporting schools in their use of IT. This post will suit a quick learner with an ability to solve technical problems as part of a frontline support team.

What you will be doing:
This position will suit someone wanting to start their career in IT support, looking to work in a dynamic environment, and participate in a structured training programme. The role will provide opportunities to gain experience in a range of schools within the trust. The successful applicant needs to be committed to achieving a qualification in information technology through the apprenticeship programme. This will involve taking part in a digital blended learning programme, with access to virtual labs for technical tasks and training and regular support from a learning coach.
The role involves providing general IT support through:
- Assisting the IT team in maintaining workstations, laptops, tablets, audio visual equipment and software in good working order
- Assisting the IT team in the deployment of computer hardware
- Initial troubleshooting of IT issues, in response to helpdesk tickets
- Routine administration including iPad management and workstation health checks
- Assisting with the expansion of schools’ network infrastructure, including switches, cabling and wireless network equipment
- Software installation, maintenance and upgrading in line with school policy
- Reporting any breach of the IT Acceptable Use Policy to the Line Manager
- Being aware of the school’s health and safety policy and assist in carrying out the appropriate responsibilities
- Assisting with the setup of audio visual equipment for presentations
- Assisting with the maintenance of the IT inventory
- Changing printer toners and basic printer troubleshooting
- Setting up new Windows users
Desired skills:
- Interest in the technical aspects of computers and networking
- Experience of Microsoft operating systems and Office packages
- Knowledge of iPads and iOS
- Knowledge of computer hardware and fault diagnosis
- Knowledge of hardware repair
- Knowledge of software installation and configuration

The training you'll be provided with:
- Comprehensive onboarding
- Level 3 Information Communications Technician apprenticeship standard
- Training for all pathways of your IT career (support technician, network technician, digital communications technician)
- Specialising in a portfolio of evidence for the Support Technician pathway
- Access to uCertify training platform; core learning materials, assessments, and practical hands-on-labs
- e-learning training materials
- Bi-weekly virtual classroom training on the CompTIA vendor qualifications
- Monthly work-based coaches visits and competency checks
- Primary Goal Support desk for technical support
You will also have the opportunity to network with a range of other apprentices on our programme who can share ideas, offer suggestions and support. Our apprentices love being able to help each other!
As one of our apprentices you will also have access to our online portal that will provide you with information and technical guidance, as well as links to the helpdesk to speak to technicians who can give real-time advice and support.

Working Week:
36 hours per week: Monday to Thursday 08.00 – 16.00, Friday 08.00 – 15.45 (subject to operational requirements)
Salary:
Salary during training: up to £22,716 depending on experience
You may be required to travel between schools sites so a driver with access to their own vehicle is essential
Desired Qualifications:
We require someone who is educated to GCSE standard English and Maths grade 4 (or above), or Functional Skills Level 2 in English and Maths.
Expected Duration:
15 months and 4 Months End Point Assessment
