IBM Z Storage Engineer

Our technology teams in the UK work closely with HSBC’s global businesses to help design and build digital services that allow our millions of customers around the world, to bank quickly, simply and securely. We also run and manage our IT infrastructure, data centres and core banking systems that power the world’s leading international bank. Our multi-disciplined teams include: DevOps engineers, IT architects, front and back end developers, infrastructure specialists, cyber experts, as well as project and programme managers. We now seek an IBM Z Storage Engineer to join our cutting edge team of mainframe experts.
Role Description
The IBM Z Storage Engineer is responsible for leading, building and supporting the IBM Z Storage hardware and software infrastructure.
Responsibilities
The IBM Z Storage Engineer will carry out some or all of the following activities:-
- Perform a Technical Project Management role for large IBM Z infrastructure projects
- Setup automation to reduce manual interventions in the Storage infrastructure
- Consolidate and reduce infrastructure complexity
- Risk and Cost Management
- Ensure Service Quality Targets are met for offered platform services
- Business stakeholder management
- Vendor liaison and management
- IBM Z Storage hardware/software design, configuration, implementation and support
Essential Skillset/Experience
Technical Skills
- IBM DS8K disk hardware installation and upgrade skills set
- IBM DSCLI knowledge
- Dell / EMC DLM virtual tape hardware installation and upgrade skill set
- Dell / EMC DLM software configuration, amendment and monitoring
- Broadcom (Brocade) DCX hardware skills and FICON concepts / configuration
- IBM z/OS IODF knowledge
- IBM GDPS
- IBM PPRC Metro / Global mirror etc. skill set
- IBM DFHSM / DFDSS / ICKDSF etc. skill set
- z/OS JCL / Job scheduling skill set
- CA1 / Vantage / Disk skill set
- TDMF skill set
Personal Experience
- Experience working within large-scale enterprise IT environment and the embedded controls
- Experience working with Agile working practices and tooling
- Working within a DevOps operating model
- Working and partnering with storage vendors (e.g. IBM, Dell / EMC)
- Experience and awareness of security, audit, risk and compliance within enterprise IT environment
- Technical Project Management skills on large infrastructure projects
Additional Skills (optional)
- Knowledge of IBM Z Systems Programming concepts and technologies
