The Newt in Somerset is a truly unique destination with two distinct sides.
It is a country estate with ancient woodland, historic gardens with far-reaching views, a luxury hotel, spa, and restaurants. Attracting some 200,000 visitors per year from all over the world, our vibrant and thriving garden attraction is animated throughout the seasons by special events, workshops, and educational programmes.
The Newt in Somerset is also a fine quality food & drinks brand, running a large farm land that produces a vibrant abundance of homegrown produce in a traditional, clean and sustainable way. This includes both fresh vegetable and fruit harvest, 365 days a-year, milk and dairy production, sheep and beef pastures with our own butchery, artisan bakery, mature apple orchards and state-of-the-art cyder cellar.
Our Hygiene Manager
The Hygiene Manager will be working closely with Operational staff and the technical team at all levels to ensure that key issues and concerns are actioned and resolved. The Hygiene Manager will drive all elements of the hygiene service throughout the company, setting standards and leading the hygiene teams to deliver the company’s strategy in terms of, safety, health, environmental, hygiene innovation, quality, and efficiency, ensuring a hygiene service which supports the delivery of business objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Developing and reviewing, comprehensive, accurate and effective, up to date cleaning routines and cleaning instruction cards for each piece of equipment for all the relevant areas. Ensuring their availability for all equipment and area and advising colleagues on the cleaning processes.
- Monitoring, auditing, and reviewing the performance of the hygiene division, to identify areas of improvement and innovation, ensuring activities are delivered to plan, budget, and standards beyond compliance.
- Undertaking risk assessments to validate the frequency and duration of the cleaning required, verifying, and monitoring the effectiveness of such methods.
- Managing the safe storage of chemicals used onsite, and calibrating chemical dosages, adhering to COSHH Regulations. Seeking data sheets. Training colleagues in the use of and the required PPE to be worn.
- Overseeing the ordering, laundering and supply of workwear for all internal departments.
- Meeting all cross functional food safety, safety, health, and environment standards, in compliance with legal, regulatory and company requirements, customers’ requirements and quality management systems.
- Liaising closely with the technical manager, as well as interacting with shift managers, managers, technical team, and engineers ensuring a collaborative working environment.
- Organising and overseeing clean down programmes, verifying equipment is clean and safe to resume working activities.
- Maintaining departmental financial budgets.
- Monitor and manage the site waste disposal system in conjunction with the third-party contractor.
Skills and Experience
- Solid cleaning and hygiene experience – essential for this role.
- Experience of working as a hygiene manager in a similar post.
- Experience in a similar role within Chilled Food/Drink Manufacturing and hospitality industry.
- Level 4 Food Hygiene – essential.
- IOSH Managing Safety – desirable.
- Strong knowledge of COSHH Regulations – essential.
- Health and safety qualifications at level 2 desirable.
- High level of knowledge of food safety and HACCP development
